Below is the listings of some of the major Windows Home Server Release versions that have been released. The software is listed in reverse order, so that the current release is listed at the top of this article.

Update Rollup 2

Update Rollup 2 Release Note:

The following issues are fixed in this update.

Issue 1

Assume that you use Windows Internet Explorer 9 to access the computer page of the Windows Home Server Remote Access website. In this situation, your connection fails if your Windows Home Server Remote Access website is not added to the trusted sites zone.

Issue 2

The TV archive add-in in Media Center fails on the TV archive page after you change the calendar to the Japanese format.

Issue 3

The uninstallation process fails on your first attempt to uninstall Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 Client Connector from a home computer.

Issue 4

When you shut down a home computer, Windows Home Server may report that antivirus software is not installed or is out of date. This occurs even though the antivirus software is installed and up-to-date.

Issue 5

A home computer that is joined to one of the following servers is not blocked when the computer tries to join Windows Home Server:

• The next version of Windows Home Server
• Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials
• Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials
• This causes software compatibility issues.

Issue 6

The current version of Identity Client Run Time Library that is included in Windows Home Server contains a potential privacy issue.

Issue 7

A function call may fail if you use the Windows Home Server software development kit (SDK) to retrieve user information on a German or French version of Windows Home Server.

Issue 8

The Remote Access website may be vulnerable to cross-site request forgery attacks.

Update Rollup 1

Update Rollup 1 Release Note:

The following issues are fixed in this update.

Issue 1

You cannot restore a client computer without manually creating partitions or mapping the source and destination volume.

After you install this update, you can restore a client computer without manually creating partitions or mapping the source and destination volume. However, to enable this functionality, the following conditions must be true:

• The backup must be stored on only one disk.
• The destination computer must have only one hard disk.
• The hard disk in the destination computer must be equal to or larger in size than the backup.
• The hard disk drive in the destination computer must be an internal hard disk drive. For example, IDE, SATA or e-SATA.

Issue 2

2048-bit certificates will soon replace 1024-bit certificates. This update enables Home Server users to use 2048-bit certificates before 2048-bit certificates become the industry standard.

After you install this update, you are asked to renew Website certificates if you have already registered the live domain for the websites. After you finish the renewal process, the website certificates are upgraded to 2048-bit.

Issue 3

You cannot change the backup settings if a volume that has backup-excluded folders is not available. In this situation, you must wait until the volume becomes available.

After you install this update, you can remove a missing volume that has backup-excluded folders from the backup process.

Issue 4

You cannot remove all users' permissions from a shared folder. When you try to remove the permissions, the Windows Home Server console reports that the operation succeeds. However, the permissions are not removed.

After you install this update, you can successfully remove all users' permissions from a shared folder. If you tried to perform this operation before you install this update, the permissions will be removed when you restart the computer after you install this update.

Issue 5

You may experience incompatibility issues when you use the next version of Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows Home Server. This is a precautionary update. Windows Home Server is currently not supported by the next version of Microsoft Security Essentials Beta or final release. This update will address some incompatibility issues.

Power Pack 3

Power Pack 3 Release Note:

• Power Pack 3 Beta requires that your home server is already running Power Pack 2
• Windows 7 compatibility is supported. You can now access Windows Home Server from Windows 7 libraries on a computer that is running Windows 7. This update supports the power settings for a Windows 7 client computer. Specifically, the computer can now be turned on and off according to backup schedules.
• New capabilities in Windows Search 4.0 increase the efficiency of searching the content on a home server.
• Windows Home Server backup is more reliable. This update fixes an issue that occurs when you restore a backup file. This process can now progress past 81 percent or 97 percent completion
• You can now archive and transcode TV recorded from Windows Media Center to a home server. You can view information about the home server from a Windows Media Center computer. This information includes storage space, drives, and backup status
• Compatibility is increased between home computers that use low resolution displays (1024 x 600) and the home server.
• You can now connect a home computer to a home server even if your Internet service provider uses OpenDNS as its DNS solution.
• You can now recover a home server by using Power Pack 2 Server Recovery DVD that is provided by your OEM provider.

Power Pack 3 Beta 1

Power Pack 3 Beta 1 Release Note:

• Power Pack 3 Beta requires that your home server is already running Power Pack 2, version 6.0.2030.0
• Windows Home Server Drive Extender is not updated and stays at version 6.0.2030.0

May 2009 Update

May 2009 Release Note:

• When you open the Windows Home Server Console on a home computer that has a screen resolution that is lower than 1024 × 768, the Windows Home Server console may be displayed incorrectly.

Power Pack 2

Power Pack 2 Release Note:

Power Pack 2 provides a range of improvements. These include the following:

• This update adds support for streaming MP4 files through Windows Media Connect. This enables your home server to stream to your Xbox 360 console and other devices that support the MP4 format.
• This update automatically updates the music, photos, videos, and recorded TV libraries in Windows Media Center to include the Music, Photos, Videos, and Recorded TV shared folders on your home server.
• This update enables Media Center Extenders that are connected to a computer that is running Windows Media Center to access content on your home server without using the guest account.
• This update includes a Web-hosted diagnostic service that can be used to more accurately test remote connectivity outside the home network.
• This update prevents you from unintentionally overwriting newer versions of the Windows Home Server Connector files. This could potentially occur when you restore files and folders from a Windows Home Server backup to a software shared folder on your home server.
• This update makes it easier to copy large files or folders from a home computer that is running Windows Vista to a shared folder on your home server. With this update, the file size is limited to the free space on the target hard disk drives that are connected to your home server.

February 2009 Update

February 2009 Update Release Note:

This update improves the process by which the Windows Home Server Connector software is updated. Additionally, this update resolves certain issues that may occur when you are restoring files and folders from Windows Home Server. For example, when you try to open a Home Computer Backup file, the process may stall at 79 to 81-percent complete.

Power Pack 1

Power Pack 1 Release Note:

Power Pack 1 provides a range of improvements. These include the following:

• Support for home computers that are running Windows Vista x64 editions
• Backup of Home Server shared folders
• Improvements to remote access
• More efficient power consumption
• Improved performance

Power Pack 1 also resolved the DE Corruption Bug.
