The MediaSmart Server client installation includes an "Aggregator" to automatically copy your music from each of your clients onto the server. The following section details how this is setup, and must be performed on each client PC you wish to run the Aggregator from.

NB: Before you can aggregate your music from your client PC’s to your MediaSmart Server, make sure you’ve got iTunes installed, and iTunes has been run at least once, and your music is listed in the library.

On your client desktop, double click on the HP MediaSmart Server icon.

Click on Tools, and then Settings for iTunes.

Ensure the radio button is set to Enabled, and set it to whatever frequency you wish the Aggregator to run by sliding the bar forwards or backwards.

The aggregator should now check your client PC and copy any music it finds in your library to the Music share on the server. This will take the format of your client name and then the path on your client to the music, for example:

\\HPSERVER\MUSIC\PC-NAME\C\Cougar\Music

Troubleshooting the Media Aggregator

  • Make sure your user account on your pc has access to your music folder on the server.
  • Enabling the guest account and granting it access to your music folder can be an easy way to troubleshoot account issues.
  • Check your client hasn’t got a process running that’s stalled called MediaAggregation.exe in Task Manager. This process will be taking CPU time if it’s running, if it’s in the list and at 0%, end the process by right clicking and choose End Process.
  • Force the program to start manually, by running "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP MediaSmart Server\MediaAggregation.exe"

I would suggest running this method and monitoring it through Task Manager and when complete, run it a second time.
