I am not sure where this should be but I would like to start something on the new HP MicroServer hardware and I see it running W2012E. So move this where ever you feel its right.

What I know so far is there seems to be two of them, the difference seems to be the CPU:
This is the fancier of the two:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16859108029
This is the lesser model: $419.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16859108028

Now I hear over at the homeservershow that a few people has put this cpu in it even though it is a 45watt cpu vs the two above that are stock at 35watt: $319.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117289

Memory, I know they have two slots and can go to to 16 gig 2 x 4gig but the two above that are stock come with 2 gig, which I'm guessing is 1 stick:
PC3-12800E DDR3 UDIMM
Newegg didn't have this at all and for sure I would want at least 2 more gig for a total of 4 gig minimum.
I know these have 4 drive bays in the front, but I can not find any unboxing or reviews to see if there is any other place for any drives inside, like a ssd os.
So, shout out if you know anything more about this box or it's memory and drive space.
I hear it will take 4 3tb drives, I'm guessing it will take 4tb and maybe 5 tb drives???

I'm thinking

I have the service manual for it and it appears to be a very tight fitted unit and like your MSS it appears to rely on passive cooling for the CPU. Its been a while since I have has a WD RED drive out but if memory serves me correct its a standard size HDD and this puppy uses the newer LFF which are thinner.

Here is the link for the service manual: http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/h ... cachetoken

As you know I have not been have much luck passing on copied links from HP so if you can't get the service manual and want it just send me an email.

I have been googling and from what I have seen so far, it appears to take normal 3.5 drives, I saw 4 Hitachi drives in one. And I haven't seen anybody talking about it.

Watch about at 2.5 mins in. I think only this micro server takes the normal 3.5 drives.

What is still unclear right now is there may or may not be 1-2 sata connectors on the board and if there is any space besides where the opti drive goes for extra harddrives.
There is an adapter to take the opti out and put a ssd 2.5 in, but I would want the opti drive. I hear there is a microSD and usb connector on the board, but ya can't raid that. I would want a OS raid1.

That's cool. There is a SATA Port for the optical drive and a Mini SAS Connector which appears to be the connection for the backplane. I don't particularly care for the warranty on this unit since it only covers parts not labor so if you have to send it in for repair you could end up paying for labor unless they just send you another unit. Not really clear on this end of it. The PSU is rather small at 150W but as these thing get put into use it will be interesting to see if my concern about its size is valid or not.

I still think for the money you can build a better unit and still have a Small Form Factor unit that can support more drives within the same enclosure and have hot swappable drives if your into that where as this unit does not allow for hot swappable drives from what I am seeing. If I am wrong on this then I am sure someone will be kind enough to correct me on this.

For someone who is looking for a ready to run solution this maybe of interest but if you have the ability to spec out a system and build it then I believe your better off doing just that.
