Hello everyone!

I have read thru a few articles but could not find any mention of someone trying Windows Storage Server 2012 on an HP MediaSmart/Data Vault? Apologies if I have missed it somehow....

I have one of each of these units which are currently running WHS1 PP3. I realise that WHS1 is not really support any longer but that does not really bother me too much, which is why I haven't bothered "upgrading" them as yet.

While 2012 Essentials is probably an obvious choice, I don't need another DC and the idea of WSS2012 to provide storage back to a couple of HP MicroServers running ESXi sounded a good choice.......

Anyway, idea/plan was WSS2012 on X510 and WHS2011 on EX490.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and opinions!

Wow, you have woken me up again! I am going to check this out and see if it is for me.
Here is a link to download the trial:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34592
I'm downloading it now, but this is weird, there is no key, it says install and evaluate.
I can't find much about it (normally I try to watch a few youtubes) Pricing is very vague at best.

I'm going to throw this on my DIY x710 and see what it is like and how long the eval is. Got my weekend all ready to go.

Thx for bringing this up.

No problem! You could always thank me for such a good service :D

It does seem to be a very quiet server offering, perhaps aimed at EOM storage appliances or NAS units, but from the small amount of information I have found it does sound just the ticket....

I guess will be the guinea pigs for this version, as no-one seems to be aware of its existence, or prefer the WSE2012 (Essentials) offering instead over WHS2011.....

This confuses me even more. I'm starting to wonder if Microsoft knows they have this
