In an effort to find Canada's fastest ISP... likely Shaw? I wanted to find out who you use, what country you're in, how much per month you're paying, any bw usage limit and speed...

Doing some quick research, looks like South Korea is still in the lead for massive speeds.

Myself, at home, I use Bell, Fibe 25mbps via fiber optic DSL, charged for 6 months @ 39.95/month now, 100gb+40gb additional bw usage limit. I'm in Toronto, ON, Canada

I was at school earlier tonight (Oshawa, ON), and on the lecturer podium... there is a ethernet port, which is insanely fast, the highest reading i got was 350mbps, i thought it was too good too be true. http://www.speedtest.net/result/1836679032.png i tested other classroom lecturer ports and they were averaging 200mbps+ ... and the student desks just at 80-120mbps. Though this would make for an interesting topic, curious to see what other people have/use/satisfied with

edit: bw usage limit

I currently use Charter in the USA. I have 100mbps download and 5mbps download and they recently reduced the cost down to $75 per month. One should also note that the bandwidth purchased is defined as speeds upto. I am happy to report my download speeds hit 70-90 and my upload hits 4-5 on average. This comes in handy for my family who utilizes my servers for streaming movies and music. Of course there is more to the puzzle than bandwith because the servers also have to be able to handle transcoding on the fly but thats my particular application.

I have a local Swedish provider named OwnIT (www.ownit.se). I pay 14 USD for 100Mbps (symmetric), no limits are in place. The fiber connection also provides my IPtv and telephony so I get approx 85Mbps sustained download / upload.

Ownit currently offers 1000Mbs for 60 USD but my associations agreement does not run out until late 2013 so I have to wait...

I think you are right, for $110/month CAD you can hook up on Shaw's broadband 250 plan. 250mbps down and 15 mbps up. If only I was single...

BTW I am on Telus adsl, sucktastically 6-10mbps down 500K up if I'm lucky. The wife has a Shaw cable connection @ 10mbps for and paid by her employer in the house as well.

This is a contradiction in terms.

It is infact nothing more than cleverly marketed VDSL service.

If you're in Toronto, you should consider getting your service from the independents (as opposed to the incumbents).

The Contradiction is right here:
johnoe wrote:
fiber optic DSL,

You describe Bell's 'Fibe' DSL as "Fibre Optic". It's no such thing. This is however what their marketing dept. would have you believe.

It's fibre just to your local node.... the same fibre-optically connected node all your neighbors with their 'normal' non-fibe DSL connect through.

The difference is that instead of the terminating technology being 'ADSL' its now 'VDSL' ... which is much faster, but hardly fibre optic.

This is why the Roger marketing machine is pushing add after add that all declare that “Their fibre Internet still connects to your old phone line. Switch to Rogers cable and get double the download speed.”

When your contract is up I highly recommend you look at the independents available in your area.... 24Mbps Down / 1 Mbps Up with 300GB or Unlimited Usage plans are available.

I was using comcast for 2 year, with 20 mbps download, and 5mbps upload. However, the increased their price to a little over $80 dollars. I switched to UVerse ATT with 12 mbps download and 3 mbps uplaod for $30 a month.
