Has anybody else try Windows 8 Customer Preview?
I installed it yesterday I have to say I was impressed how fast it installed. It was up and running smoothly in 20 minutes on an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 and only 1GB of RAM. It does boot up and shutdown fast. I had to play around a bit to try and figure out how to turn it off because MS did not make it easy.

If you have installed it, what do you think?

I downloaded it but haven't yet taken the time to install it. Maybe this weekend. From all the promotional materials I've seen, screen caps, etc. I can tell you right now I am NOT digging the Metro thing. To me it looks really silly and awkward, although it probably works fine on a tablet. My plan is to install it onto a desktop, and I'm not quite sure Metro is suited to a non-touch interface. Maybe I'm wrong.

Anyhow, I recall seeing screen caps of XP back in late 2000, and thought it was the most God-awful ugly OS I had ever seen. But XP grew on me, and it turned out to be one of my favorite UIs, so much so that I enabled XP skinning in WHS v1, which is why screen caps you see of my Home Server SMART add-in show up with XP themes! :)

I'm not getting that vibe from Metro just yet. I guess I'll have to try it out myself before I can say for sure.

I downloaded W8 and W8 Server. I was trying to install W8 on a virtual drive on my PC last night but was having a few issues and ran out of time. Should have it up later tonight or this weekend though

I have been trying to figure it out my self but so far no luck. I got it to installed on VMwareand somewhat working.

I am not sold yet either on this metro thing, specially since it look like the screen on a windows phone and i hate does.
I think to installed on a virtual machine you have to installe it as a windows 7. I read something about that last night.
One of the features i like the most is the integration with skydrive. I have been using it for a while now and there has been no easy way to integrated with windows 7.

In case you are trying to figure it out, to turn off the computer you have to go the right bottom corner and when the menu open click on setting and its there.

I have been playing with storage spaces for a bit today and it seems good. I looks like WHS v1 duplication. I am very excited about this.

Not that I'm quite ready to tip my hat to Microsoft on this one, but it makes me wonder if they REALLY were listening to the user community when we demanded that they bring back DE. Maybe they just didn't want us to have instant gratification of having it in WHS 2011 and were going to make us wait until Windows 8. Of course, they now will need to come out with WHS 2012 (or 2013) to fix all they broke in 2011. After all WHS v1 wasn't flawless when it came out, but 3 power packs later it was one mighty fine OS...

I could not find "Storage Spaces" in Windows 8 Server, but was able to find "Storage Spaces" in Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

I set up four 2TB drives. very simply in duplication.

Yeah couldn't find it either. I did notice that the write speed was very slow when using parity. It was averaging 25MB/S. Reading speed was great. I hope they find a way to make this better.

Using it on a new gaming computer I built. So far it seem stable - then again it's just Windows 7 with a new shell and maybe a few tweaks to the kernel like the drive spaces.

What is driving me batty is the neutered start menu and no way to turn off the @^!#& tile interface completely. If they stick to that with the release version, I'll stock up on some Windows 7 Pro licenses and turn into a luddite
