Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well.

Please, provide feedback on the following subject if you know the answer.

This past Christmas my brother gave me as a gift a book named Microsoft Windows Home Server UNLEASHED, Second Edition (Covers PowerPacks 1, 2 and 3!), written by Paul McFedries.

Personally, I like the book very much, however, the screen shots used by the author to illustrate the WHS user interface are totally different than what I see when I log into the EX490's Windows Home Server Console. The author's screen shots are the typical Windows Desktop, menus, etc., views.

Can anyone share some insight into this matter?

Thank you!

Best regards,

Jose

Your EX490 has a modified version of WHS. The console is the most noticable area where HP did some modifications as they have done with all the MediaSmart Servers. However if you want to use to use some of the Stock WHS logon screens say for remote connections you can see them by changing how you write the server address in your browser as listed below.

https://your domain here.com/hphome -> This is the screen your use to with the black backround with all the cool icons

https://your domain here.com/home -> This is the standard WHS Logon Screen with the lady and the video camera

https://your domain here.com/remote -> This is the standard WHS Remote Access Logon Screen

Just how you chose to use it is up to you but those web pages are all stored on your server ready to use.

If there is something I have overlooked just let me know what pages your looking at and I will be happy to try to point you in the right direction.

If the book is also showing the standard Windows Desktop then he could possibly be showing what you would see via Remote Desktop

Hello Comp1962 and Cougar, good day.

Thank you for your replies.

Comp1962, thank you for the logon tips.

Cougar, you are absolutely correct, I was reading a section of the book where the author used screenshots examples derived from a Remote Desktop Connection to the Server, therefore, I was seeing the host's (Server's) desktop instead of the WHS Console.

My apologies to all for my ignorance; I did not mean to waste anyone's time.

Best regards,

José
