RE: Seagate Advanced Format Barracuda Green ST2000DL003 SY LP Hard Drive - 2TB, 5900RPM, 64MB, SATA-6G

I ordered 2 of these drives from http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... VIEWS#tabs

I used my Sans Digital 5 Bay eSATA enclosure. Win 7/pro took a little longer to recognize/format the drive and a simple volume went fine. No jumpers are used on this drive. Just insert and play :)

My procedures and results: About 10 hours of burnin testing using BurnIn Test Pro, Hard Disk Sentinal, and chkdsk /r. No issues and the drive is quiet, runs cool, and seems to be faster than my other WD Green drive. Finally the moment of truth with WHS v1 and I provisioned the drive for server back up and let WHS v1 Format the drive and ran a quickie BU. No issues. Below are a bunch of screen grabs. Surprisingly, Home Server Smart grabed the Smart Data from this drive which I can't get with my other drives in the pool.

HTH :)

Thank you for testing!

I just bought a couple of older models from Seageate (ST32000542AS). I didn't have enough courage to test these newer models (ST2000DL003), but it's good to know that Seagete's SmartAlign is working as promised.

Thanks for testing these for us
I've been using the ST32000542AS's until now but they don't seem to be available anymore so it's good to know the new mobile runs fine with WHS 1.0

Thanks. Seems faster than the regular LP drive.

Amazon has them at:

http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Barracuda ... 668&sr=8-1

Quite a few reviews via Google with real benchmarks. I'm going to take the second one and install it in my test server hooked up to the MB and run some additional benchmarks against the 3 drives currently installed. I will post some screen captures.

OK GEEKS! Had some time to run some additional Benchmarks. Can't do the destructive writes yet but this should help. About what I exspected.

My Server: HP ProLiant ML110 G6 Intel X3440 2.53GHz 8GB Memory. Drives connected to the MB.

OS: Vail RC1 aka Alpha 1 :) (NO VM)

Compare: Western Digital 1 TB Caviar Green WD10EADS verses Seagate 2TB Advanced Format ST2000DL003-9VT166

See the three screens below. WD drive is always on the left side.

I finally found the detailed review, since I'm not a huge fan of synthetic benchmarks.

"The first real-life test is our HTPC scenario. In this test we include: playing one 720P HD movie in Media Player Classic, one 480P SD movie playing in VLC, three movies downloading simultaneously through iTunes, and one 1080i HDTV stream being recorded through Windows Media Center over a 15 minute period. Higher IOps and MB/s rates with lower latency times are preferred. In this trace we recorded 2,986MB being written to the drive and 1,924MB being read."
