Does anyone make a plug and play power supply for the EX475? I have been unable to find one. I've bought two so far that have claimed to be that way.

One had a 24 pin connector, the other had a 20 pin. I'd much rather purchase one that just 'works' than mod the 20 pin, but if that's what it takes I guess I'll have too.

Anyone?

As a matter of fact that's where I bought the last one, and it's not even close.

What was the problem with the one you received from them?

Well initially I thought it was the wrong one because it had a 24 pin connector, then figured out that 4 of the pins were removable. But I get absolutely nothing when I try to use it. It's wiring colors aren't even close. The other PS I ordered is spot on the wiki article so I guess I'll bite the bullet and to the connector re-wire.

But for my money, I did NOT get a plug and play power supply from that vendor and will be sending it back.

You bought a PSU from Overtek and it came with 24 PIN connector. Thats just does not sound right. I have one of their PSU's and it works perfectly.

Yeah it pretty much blows. The box says KDM 300W Flex MFX9300.

I'm expecting some hassle in sending it back too.

But the good news is, I just modded the Sparkle Power - FSP200-50PL per the wiki article and I'm back up and running.

Currently taking one 500 drive offline getting ready to add 2x 2GB drives. Dang video content just sucks up disk space.

If it came from Overtek I do not believe you will have any difficulty with returning the PSU. Let me know how you make out.

Its good to see you got your Server Running.

Just to circle back around and follow up.

Even though I clicked on the article link for 'Direct replacements', that didn't take me to Overtek's ebay store, but to an ebay search for power supplies.

I picked the one I wanted, and verified with the seller that it was a direct replacement. As we know, turned out not to be the case.

My Power Supply on the left, new one on the right.

Now I had already purchased a Sparkle power supply, before reading that I needed to modify it. Being that I'm lazy, I decided to seek a ready made power supply. Well that and I didn't have the Molex tools to de-pin the connector.

So somewhat hedging my bets that the power supply that I ordered also wasn't going to work, I ordered up the Pin extractor and a backup connector. Good thing too as you can see it didn't fit.

So, after dicking around for a couple hours, I just modded the Sparkle supply, it wasn't that bad all in all with the de-pinning tool.

I trimmed off the excess cables, shrunk wrapped them and am back in business.

In the end, the vendor permitted me to return this. It's going back today.

Now on with the drive upgrades, and to configure a method to backup :)

FWIW, while I was in there I also upgraded the CPU. Did the 2GB ram upgrade when I first got it but didn't do the CPU then. It's all happy now, albeit a little louder.

Thanks for sharing your story, and glad to hear that your supply wasn't from Overtek as we've heard nothing but good about them in the past. I've changed the link in the article as it seems to no longer work, and now it takes you directly to the Overtek ebay store.
