Anyone seen this?

Makes me want to send my EX490 back. Up to 8gb ram, 2 pci slots, vga port, etc in a tiny form factor.

No software, so add $95 for WHS or nearly $700 if you want to run Server 2008 (or not much if Linux is your OS choice). The CPU is on the light side for my needs and it would be nice to have a 2.5" drive bay for a separate system drive.

Chenbro has an interesting case for a home built Vail server. It has a 2.5" drive bay in addition to 4 hot swap 3.5" bays, which would be ideal for Vail since you can place the OS and applications on a dedicated system drive - SSD in this case. It's size is about the same as my EX490, and size was one of the factors in my choosing the MSS. Reviews on the case seem to be mixed, which is a concern. Chenbro appears to have put a limit of 65W TDP for the CPU and that filters out the S models of the i7 CPU with a TDP of 82W.

Nice for a small unit. Having space for an optical drive is a nice touch.

Looks nice. But is there still no word on an EX49x replacement?

I would guess that HP will wait until next year when Vai is available and release new boxes with Vail. Also, they could use the time to unload current boxes for Christmas.
