So here's my question. What kind of Drives are people adding to the MSS's? ie EIDE, SATA, SATA II, SCSI

The MSS only supports SATA/SATA II drives, which is what's inside of every machine shipped from the factory. Heads up before you buy an additional drive, because IDE and SCSI drives won't work.

Yes, you can certainly refuse delivery from Buy.com, however it comes with a price as I am speaking from recent experience...... I refused an order placed on 12/27/07 to that was returned/accepted back to Buy.com on 1/14/08 - I just got my money refuned on approx 3/7/08!! It took 6 phone calls over 45+ days to get my money back.... It was torturous, waste of time and just simply ridiculous!!

The moral of that story is;

1. Only buy from Buy.com, when no other reasonable option exists

2. Explore their RMA approach as that might have been quicker in the end, however, I didn't want to pay any shipping charges of $38

Anyways, I'll only buy from them again, when I am certain that I will not be returning any merchandise.

Best Buy SUCKS!
I recently bought an LCD monitor from Best Buy that fizzled after about 2.5 months of service took it back, of course I got the "It's out of date for replacement since you did'nt purchase the X-Tended Service Plan." Of course I already got rid of my (last) CRT. so after a little bit of arguing I got them to mail it to the manufacture for repair. but who knows when i'll see it again. I ended up buying another one from staples to replace it while it's gone! This is really only the second time I've been burned not purchasing a service plan but I guess that is what you get for purchasing the plan "SERVICE!" I still probably won't purchase many "Service Plans" depending on what I'm buying of course! Thought I'd share my BB experience!

It's under the manufacturer warranty. Why did you go through BestBuy? You should have called the manufacturer. BestBuy isn't going to do anything after the 30 day return period unless you bought the extended warranty. Many credit cards extend the manufacturers warranty by another year.
there is nothing wrong with BestBuy. If you wanted to be able to return the item within 90 days you should have purchased it from Walmart or Costco. BestBuy did more than they should have in this situation by sending it to the manufacturer when it is the buyers responsibility.
Instead you should be praising BestBuy since they went above and beyond what they were obligated to do.

**********CORRECTION***********

Wal-Marts return policy on Computer Components is PC's 15 days.
Computer Components and accessories = 45 days.

Computer hardware: Must be returned with any included software within 15 days of receipt.
Computer components and computer accessories: Must be returned within 45 days of receipt.

Wow, did'nt mean to offend anyone over the Best Buy comment. Yeah your all correct, I know it's not potentially Best Buys problem. Should of kept my mouth shut. Probably would of happened anywhere. You know how it is, it just sucks when things break soon after you purchase them. We tend to rely on things too much these days and are quick to place blame!
No Offense!

Now, Back on subject here...
I can't say for sure because I have yet to open my box up but under Server Storage in my Home Server Console it says Disk Type ST35063 0AS SCSI Disk Type for both drives that came in my box under Location it says Internal (SCSI) so correct me if I'm wrong but I would consider this a SCSI drive.

CBENDER, I don't think you offended anyone.... The last bits of the thread were talking about issues with a HARD DRIVE we'd seen on buy.com, and some expressing problems with problems they'd had with BUY.COM . . . .

Then pops up your comment about a MONITOR? from BESTBUY.

Your story of your experience with BestBuy was as welcomed as any one else's comments, you should just probably have started a new thread about it.

:-)

The drive in the MSS is indeed a SATA drive... For some reason, Windows reports it as a SCSI disk...... I'm using WHS, and it reports it as a INTERNAL ATA.

If you RDP over to the MSS, and open the CONTROL PANEL under SYSTEM, you will see it reported as the correct SEAGATE 500gb drive.

Hmm? I'm not finding it, the control panel that is, is it under the Home Server Console or the Media Smart Control center?

He means if you used the "Remote Desktop Connection" to connect to the actual computer instead of WHS console, which erroneously says its disks are SCSI (for me, too).

Anyway, the important thing I wanted to give you a heads up about is that you want to buy SATA drives if you're going to buy extra!

Welcome to the forums, BTW.

Some people say RDP and some say RDC

I think "RDP" means Remote Desktop Protocol......

The program you'd actually be executing on the computer is called "Remote Desktop Connection" RDC.

I appears so, though I'm returning mine for the moment until they get the big data corruption bug worked out (and maybe until v2 depending on how far away the launch is from the bug fix). :D

You can "RDP" from any Windows machine. The restriction is on which Windows operating systems you can RDP to!
