Received the upgrade discs today here in the USA and inserted the server recovery disc with no result. Nothing happened and the disc didn't even appear to have the right files on it, so...

I inserted the pc restore disc and found the server recovery executable in the root of the disc. A few clicks later I was following the recovery instructions prompted by the software. After the server reboot and pressing the recessed button, the software asks that you click to proceed which resulted in an error. The short version to fix this error: when you run the recovery executable, make sure you right click the file and run as an administrator.

So far so good, the update is working and the recovery just finished.

Lessons:
Use the pc restore disc if the server recovery disc doesn't work (the labels were applied wrong).
Run the recovery executable as an administrator.

I'll update what happens next for the USA customers who are curious to see how the install goes in the field.

The "so far, so good" continues.

After the recovery process completed, the server rebooted and I waited about 5 minutes (typing the above message while waiting) and then popped in the software install disc. I gave the connector executable a couple clicks to get it running (run as admin not required here). I followed the prompts one-by-one which covered things like server name, password, update options, etc.

I'm currently on the "installing updates" screen which has been chilling out at 2% for about 5 minutes. I'm going to be patient here, I can hear the server being very active.

BTW, I'm running an ex470 with an AMD 2.6GHz cpu and 2GB of RAM which I've owned for almost 2 years.

Now the progress bar jumped up to 67%, excellent!

Zen,

I received my upgrade discs today and the same thing was true. Server Recovery and PC Recovery discs labels were backwards.
Waited close to a month for the discs, didn't want to send them back..lol

The server is fully up and running with all HP patches applied and PP3 installed.

My data appears to be solid and I verified that at least one of my previous backups opens up just fine.

I'm having a bit of trouble getting McAfee to play nice, but this isn't a server problem so much as it is McAfee's horrible WHS support from their site.

TZO was not being recognized in the Remote Access section, but I went through the Configure button and selected choose a new domain name to get it to recognize my account correctly. My account details show up now, but I can't connect to the server remotely, but this is probably the same problem I had before the update (I have 2 MSSs on the network and they fight over the UPnP setup).

I haven't played with any of the new features yet, but the server seems plenty responsive, at least as good as before.

So, for anyone wondering if the update broke my server, for now I have to say the upgrade was relatively painless aside from the mislabeled discs. If you're comfortable with updating other software or installing an OS, this update will be a piece of cake. :)

From my experience with the USA discs, the software itself is okay despite the mislabeling.

Enjoy your update!

I will tell ya the 3.0 so far is sweet. Only real issue I had was when the Server Recovery went to install the Client Software on my computer and of course it picked up the other 2 and not the one I was recovering because it was not quite ready and I grew abit impatient with it. Not a big deal got everything installed just fine.

In the time since I made the update, I've had only one major problem - the Twonky high cpu bug. Took a while to get the server to finally respond well-enough so I could disable Twonky and make changes to its settings. Planning to re-enable it with patch 3 applied and video sharing disabled until there's a fix because I don't have time to find which of over 500 files is causing a problem. With a single core cpu, that's one nasty bug.

I guess I should have looked a little closer to find this post because I just posted a comment about this in the 3.0 ordering post. Oh well. Sorry for the repost and good to know I am not the only one with mislabeled discs.

Got mine today (1 week after the mailing notice!)

The first attempt to put into server recovery mode didn't work (kept blinking blue rather than red/blue). Powered down/up again and it went into recovery mode. On to next step.

After copying the OS back to the server, it did its "restart a few times" thing, but it took FAR longer than 5 minutes. The status light was blinking blue and I could hear the drive was pretty active.

The restore install had kicked off the client install, which kept telling me it couldn't find the server. Told me to try again several times and it still couldn't find it.

Just when I was seriously thinking about resetting and trying againt it rebooted once again and then went into the "blue breathting" mode and the connector/setup install finally found the server.

Then it went into the "checking and installing updates" for the sever and it was stuck at 2% for a LONG time....again, making me think it was hung other than the drives were making lots of noise. After maybe 5 - 10 minutes it jumped from 2% to ~52% and it's still going.

Everything is wired (not wireless), so I'm not sure what's going on here, but my recommendation to others is to be very patient as long as you still hear drive activity.

Still waiting for the first connector setup (and WHS setup) process to finish.
