Probably forever unless you fix it with my guide.

If Twonky is turned off it should not be running to consume 100% CPU.

In that case, you probably want to look at Task Manager and see what is consuming the CPU cycles. If it's Hpmssservice.exe or if you look at the media collector under the HP tab in the console and it shows your PCs as incompatible, then take a look at this thread for a possible solution. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7446 I had Twonky off and found high CPU cycles, which led me to discover the problem and solution around hpmssservice.exe

Well i found out what was using all the CPU, i went into the Task Manager and found Twonky was still running even though i had it switched off in the server, i ended the progress and right away my server works the way it used to.

I upgraded an ex470 and everything went smoothly, it also downloaded the 3.0 Patch and installed that, so no problems with excess cpu usage. Although I will say HP mis-labelled the disks and the PC restore disk was the Server restore disk, etc.

So far so good. Had some trouble getting the server into recovery mode. But what happened to the Online Backup S3 Add-in? I can't find it.

That add in does not work with 3.0. You'll need to find a substitute that works with S3. I'm using Jungle Disk gir WHS but am not sure that's still available to download.

Yea, I was afraid of that. I'll find something or I guess I can just wait until Jungle Disk releases their WHS solution which according to them is still coming.

One more question, how smart is the HP Media Collector at avoiding duplicating files. I have about 18GB of music with file duplication turned on. The music share is 98GB and I can't seem to find any duplicates. Same with my photo share 3GB with file dup and the share is 8GB. What gives?

Upgraded my EX474 to V 3.0 - NOT IMPRESSED!

1. Outrageous cost to ship to Canada. It is not like HP does not have facilities in Canada, why could they not ship from a Canadian site, a simple postal shipment would have been adequate for 3 DVD's.

2. Waited over 1 month for delivery.

3. DVD's are labelled incorrectly! This is just not acceptable quality control, especially with the outrageous price.

4. Install failed. I tried 4 times to install the new operating system. Seemed to go OK initially but after 40 minutes it would leave the Server in a state with 3 steady blue lights at the bottom, but my 3 hard drive LED's would blink blue on and off (not the breathe behaviour that is part of the v 3.0 upgrade). Serached the internet for an interpretation of this light behaviour but found none. The install would never complete and failed each time when the software would start to install. Evenntually had to do a full clean install and rebuild my server with my backed up data (6 hours!)

5. I had read good things about the new Connecter interface, but in reality it is almost identical to the old one with the exception of a new main screen. I have found no advantage to this new interface.

6. The main reason I wanted to upgrade was so I could stream music files. It works, but man is it slow to initiate the streaming of a music file , varies from 30 sec to 3 minutes. Not really useable. I have not upgraded the processor on my server but I do have a 2GB memory upgrade. Is this normal behaviour for music streaming. I have fast Cable LAN connection. File transfers over my connection are fast.

All in all this upgrade was a waste of time and money. HP should send out new disks to replace the mislabelled ones, but to be honest I do not think the effort to request this would be worth it. Very disappointed.

The slow music starting sounds like it may be the Twonky issues I documented in my blog post and which is addressed in the just released 3.0 Patch 3. Otherwise it is more likely to be your upstream internet connection.

Thanks for your suggestion. I am quite sure my internet connection is not a problem as I use it for frequent file downloads and I have not noticed an issue, but I will do some testing. I will give the patch a try.

I tried patch 3 but no improvement in streaming media. I checked the Event viewer on my server and I noticed multiple Application error messages that corresponds with my attempts to stream music. The errors are all labelled "msconnect": The remote server returned an error: (503) Server Unavailable.
Exception:System.Net.WebException
Message:The remote server returned an error: (503) Server Unavailable.
Source:System
StackTrace:
at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse()
at MediaStreamerUI.proxy.ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Any idea what is causing this?

I'd try a server reboot if you've not done that recently.
