Sorry if this is a silly question, I want to be prepared for what my wife might start complaining about when this hits the server. :-)

When you say "Remote Media Streaming" does that mean the problems were only if you were "off your home LAN", connected over HTTP, streaming to another computer? Was other "streaming" impacted, like the iPod "iStream" app, or DLNA?

OmniWrench, the Remote Web Streaming is available when you visit your home server via a web browser, typically from outside the home. The transcoding issue does affect the iStream application from my testing, but I've not tried DLNA streaming. I would expect it to NOT affect in-home DLNA/UPnP streaming.

Too late. Looks like it was pushed down to my MSS this morning. I sure hope it doesn't mess something up!

Thank you all for sharing your results on this patch and posting them here. I turned off automatic update for HP updates yesterday as a result of reading this so you've likely saved me some hassle.

It has worked fine for me as I do not use TwonkyMedia. My MSS is primarily a backup machine and overflow file storage.
The patch does fix many of the other reported problems.

Which problems? There are no HP binaries delivered in the patch other than Twonky and the Mac Client, so no way there could be fixes.

Looks like I was pushed this patch also. I'm getting one song to play at a time on the music streamer, and I don't have any mobile or full videos showing up in the video streamer.

I think I can work with the xml file to fix my music. Has anyone had video issues like mine?

I hope there is a patch for the patch soon.

I am not too impressed with Patch 2 to be honest. I tried it out when it was a downloadable .exe... net result it corrupted Twonkymedia which I do actually use and stopped the server from running and made the Twonky control panel fail. I then rather stupidly let it download via the HP update service tonight having restored my server... net result the twonky tab no longer appears in settings and it is impossible to start the server service.

I am not doing anything exotic with my server. It hasn't been modified and I am only running three plugins, F-Secure, Perfect Disk 11, and the Home Server toolkit.

All in all, I am not very happy, as I will now no doubt need to rebuild yet again. :x

Has anybody else had this experience with the update?

Greg Wellington

PS I've RDPd into the server and the TwonkyMedia directory is now empty of files.

Aww heck the folder mine is hanging on has over 100 videos in it, gonna be a long night :(

** EDIT **

Hangs on another folder now

Would performing a server restore and then installing the updates before this one but not this one fix my problem?

Greg, it's not clear to me what the problem is. Do you want Twonky on your server or not? I have not seen this update corrupt Twonky.

James, the problem is with Twonky, reinstalling will not resolve the problem if it is hanging on some of your media files.

I do want Twonkymedia.

In both attempts to apply the update the result has been Twonky being corrupted / uninstalled.

Greg, what model server and version of software do you have?

Medismart EX490 - 3.2.1.34990.

Previously I had the Patch 1 installed.

You can check the event viewer on the server to look for errors, but other than that I'm not sure what else to advise you. I've done several installs of this patch and not seen the behavior you describe.
