Normally I would do a blog post about this but it seems enough sites have already picked up on this so not worth repeating, and will leave for forum discussion.

At CES Syabas is expected to announce their new media player called "Popbox". Looks like they are targeting approx. $130 as the price and have totally revamped the UI to make it more of a "Plug N Play" solution. I haven't seen any details on the hardware, so don't know if it will be running the latest Sigma chip. You can check out this link for more information although I find the article either a little misleading or confusing (the title states Netflix but to me it is not clear if Netflix will definitely be available or if there is the potential for Netflox):

From the sounds of it, Netflix will be available along with other content that they couldn't offer before.



The line I highlighted above to me means that Netflix would be available.

This announcement gives me a very good reason to wait for this to add to my setup.

Yeah, if you look at the second link I just posted it appears Netflix will be part of the 20 apps they will showcase. HD Audio will be the big thing for me if this will be a main player or a secondary player

I saw that link after I posted. After I read it I decided this is not the device for me... they are stripping the box of what would be good for me. Namely the ability to stream content off my MSS! Why would they remove the one feature that so many people want and would use?

I guess it is the A110 or C200 for me, unless they come out with a Popbox with the media-server functions put back... I have time before I plan on getting this so hopefully they wise-up. Guess time and the market will decide this.

Why do you think you would lose the ability to stream from your MSS? My understanding is that will still be the case. Much of what is being removed are the apps, BT, etc...

Wow, if this thing will stream Bluray from my WHS along with full menu support, this appears to be the ticket. Looks like I'll be holding off on my Dune purchase...

I think you need a Blu Ray license to support Blu Ray menus. The C200 has this license which is why you get full menus with BD Isos. At least for now it doesn't appear that the Popbox will have a BR license but of course this is all speculation.

Seems very silly not to include the Bluray license with this new box, but I suppose that would blow up the price point.

Here is why I am saying that;

That is quoted from your second link. If they are pulling out the media-server functions then how would you expect to be able to stream over your network from your MSS? Everything that they are talking about as far as features are concerned all point to internet streaming and not LAN streaming... Please explain if I am reading this wrong, which I clearly hope I am!
