Hello everyone, I wanted to start a new topic for extreme EX 475 upgrades.
The two upgrades I'm in the process of performing are :
Adding a modified cpu cooler with a fan to replace the factory heat sink.
And
Adding a dual core AMD processor AMD #ADD3800IAA5C

I found a supply of the processor from this company called Epochsales (www.epochsales.com) AMD MODEL3800+,2000MHZ,35 W,90NM SOI,AM2 is the chip. You can use the model number listed above as the sku number to find it easyly. I am following the instructions other people have kindly posted in the threads of how to upgrade to a dual core chip.

Please keep in mind I have yet to receive the processor as I placed the order late friday night, lets hope it all goes well.

The CPU Fan i plan to modify is based on a Socket 370 A cooler. The cooler is a premanufactored cpu fan from www.newegg.com. It measures 60mm square. After taking apart and manually measuring the mainboard holes for the cpu cooler they are exactly 60mm in a square- center point to center point. The additional 20mm of the factory heatsink is expands into the space between the CPU socket and the RAM socket.

The CPU fan i'm buying has to be modied a little ( I will post pictures of the process) but it's height ( 28.5 mm ) should fit within the 30mm clearence of the old Heat sink height.

In case you've havent read other postings there is a cpu fan header at the front of the mainboard. I'm assuming its a standard 12volt with a speed sensor wire. Its not a 4 wire fan like the two exhaust fans on the back ( 4 wire would be 2 for voltage, 1 for speed sense, and the last for PWM signal)

I'm hoping to have all the mods done within the next two weeks and if my experiement works I will post pics.

If anyone could offer me some advice as to some of their moding experiements I would love to hear them !

I hope y'all get the 35W version. Lots of folks have ordered what was listed as the 35W version only to get the 65W version. It would be interesting to see if the mod you're planning will work with the 65W version if that's what you get. Definitely post pics as you go along.

Has anyone tested to see if that memory slot can recognize a 4gb stick? As far as I am concerned the motherboard will only recognize 2gb as the max, especially for the 470 series.

Yup, people have been using 4GB sticks in the EX47x servers for quite a while. :sanjuan:

It has been a month now, has anybody ordered this processor and verified that it is indeed the 35W version? I have an EX470 coming and am looking for a processor upgrade for it.

I just called Epoch Sales, and they have none of these in-stock.
