Adding a second HP MSS has been a tedious endeavor. I solved the PVConnect/TWONKY vs PS3 issue, but now cannot access the Console by using the DISCOVERY.EXE applet.

When running DISCOVERY, both servers are detected... upon selecting one, entering password, selecting NOT to wakeup for backups, the Connector proceeds to access the server and configure the backup. However, once clicking FINISH... I get the dreaded "Home Server Discovery has encountered a problem and must close... blah blah blah."

I uninstalled the Connector and Repaired, Uninstalled the Connector and REMOVEd... but the same error keeps popping up.

I am able to access both servers via Remote Desktop and access the Console from RDP. Folders can be accessed from both servers. Only this Discovery issue remains a problem...

Any ideas would be appreciated...

I even opened up ALL ports to both server MAC addresses in my Firewall.... but still no success.

Yes, shut off one of the WHS systems and run the connector, if you still have a problem then you know it's not caused by 2 WHS systems running. If you don't have a problem then the connector is installed and you can bring up the other WHS system.

Also make sure both servers are at the same version of software.

When I turn OFF one server, the error still occurs. The Connector software detects the server but then fails to connect because "Home Server Discovery has encountered a problem". The GREEN tray icon does appear... and then when double-clicked, I am able to connect to the console.

When BOTH servers are ON, the same sequence of events happens... I get the error, but the server I selected during Discovery is the one that can be accessed by the green icon.

I believe both servers are running identical software... as far as I can tell. All HP Updates completed... and the Settings Resources page indicates 6.0.2030.2 for the first item, and 6.0.2030.0 for the rest. To me, I think the Connector software is not the same on each server, but I'm not sure how to get them to match.

So, If I understand you correctly, everything is working correctly but you are just getting an error. I suspect you do not automatically get the shared files icon for the correct server created. If you need a shared files icon just search for the server and then create a shortcut on the desktop by dragging the icon from the search results to the desktop. I used to get that message all the time when connecting to the server from a windows server 2003 system. Does the connect correctly but errors out and doesn't create the shared files icon.

You can check the connector installation software in the software share to see if they are the same.

YES.... that sounds about right... Glad to know it isn't just something I did incorrectly... I'd still like to "fix it" though.

Thanks for your help.

Both folders of the Connector software contain the same files... (same sizes and dates).

OK, that doesn't necessarily mean that the software on the client is the same. Try reloading the client from the server he is attached to. just go to the software share and execute the exe file on the client. Maybe a fresh copy of the connector software will fix it.
