This is certainly appreciated that HP has formally responded to the 1st Gen adopters of the server and have expressed a committment of continued support with the upgrade path availablity in the fall. While I would prefer an update path rather than a "re-installation" of imaged DVD's, which appears to be the only option, it is better than nothing at all.

Also, in the event we go the imaged DVD path, will there be documentation and/or ability to easily retain our existing backups??? I can move folders/files off the server temporarily and move back after the install, but am curious how the backups would be handled.

In either case you could use my BDBB Add-In to back up and restore the Backup database. 8)

I use the most recent version of WHS BDBB, but have never had the need to restore any of them, so it's good to know I could just install that app on the fresh install and then restore from that point.

I would also be curious to know if the 'Imaged' DVDs are actually files that we would download or would they need to be shipped, as well as wondering if this path is complimentary support or incremental - sort of like how Apple whacks earlier adopters of ipod devices (e.g. iPod Touch) for subsequent OS releases????

Due to licensing restrictions from Microsoft, they will have to be physical media that is shipped from HP support, the same as current replacement media is handled. My understanding is that this is a complimentary update.

I think it's great HP have listened to the views of the consumer; and also great they have been watching what we have been doing!

I can fully understand why they would choose to go down the recovery/reset option, quite simply it removes all the variables each user would present to an upgrade approach.

Way to go :hp:

Hi

Great news. I am somewhat suprised though. Having been burnt many times before with the various purchases of HP pda line and the none existant updates to these devices I did not expect HP to come up with an upgrade path for the EX47* line

I for one look forward to fall or as we say in the UK autumn

great news though the timeframe and undisclosed details are worrying. For those of us that have upgraded, we can keep what we have got and decide to "upgrade" once the DVD is available.

Yakuza, do you know if this will impact whether HP pushes out the limited update that was originally proposed for May?
