Now that the user base, and hence the number of questions increasing, would it be worth setting up a FAQ or a Wiki with the most popular/frequent ones?

Yup, it would, good suggestion. I tried to start that before the site got busier, but haven't been great at keeping it up to date. I like the idea of a Wiki, I'll consider implementing that when I'm back from CES...

So... I had finally decided to get off my butt and post some of my forum contributions to the wiki...

Low and behold I am not a member of the "emailconfirmed" group... so I am unable to contribute... and it seems the only members of the emailconfirmed group are also the sysops!

It's kinda hard to contribute if there's no (automated) mechanism to become a member of the emailconfirmed group.

The good news is... I feel less bad for not having contributed earlier :P

Perhaps it was not meant to be?

You should be able to edit and post now. Goes to show how hard it is to get people to contribute that nobody else has asked about this yet. It's locked down simply because of the inordinate amount of spam that occurs on these sites...

Thanks!

Yeah I noticed the 500+ spam users... I imagine there isn't very much you can do to cut down on it... I've read they have software that's able to OCR even the worst of those Image/Text-Verification things.

I actually managed to stop new spam registrations, I just haven't found a good clean way to filter out the old dead ones.

I saw a thing that the spammers have automated software to forward the images and they pay people in 3rd world countries all day to type the correct keys.

Maybe just urpan legend but who knows...
