I tried kodi but couldn't get used to it. I still like WMC, and my family is used to it. For streaming we all watch TV, youtube, netflix, etc. from either WMC or a mix of WMC/Kodi (For streaming I have to fold and admit that kodi is better for the time being). Right now, I do use the Media smart as a file server, only I use the connector app on WHS 2011 to populate the libraries in WMC. I rarely have problems watching MKV bluray rips, or WTV recorded TV files, and I just signed up for HBO, starz, etc from my cable company. I have honestly been happier with WMC than any other solution. Just so you can have some idea about how nuts I am about the WMC ecosystem, I also have 2 HP extenders which aren't currently in use, one is brand new and still in the box. I have an xbox 360 in my livingroom that is ran off of the same switch as a NUC running WMC, and I don't have any performance issues. For newer devices, I use Emby which from what I gather is much more stable than plex, and has a wmc addon (I have been using emby for about a year or so, and really like it). Emby even lets me watch live TV via a web browser so it checks the box for viewing movies, TV, etc. on mobile devices. I wanted to try to complete the setup, and run WMC natively on a media smart but I don't NEED to do this. I suppose my next attempt will involve installing virtualbox as a service, and setting up 7MC in that for extenders but this will also be something I do as an experiment. Thank you for your input though, and I'm glad someone is still looking out for MediaSmart owners. I can appreciate some aspects of kodi but I just enjoy WMC more, and until I absolutely have to I won't be moving to anything else. I have tried in the past but come back to WMC every time.
