my system crashed. I had to get a new hard drive. I have an older backup on my WHS but I can see the server when computer is on but when I run the Restore Wizard I cannot find my server.

I have used the restore feature before and it worked great.

I have a USB with the driver info and that seams to work.

I am running Windows 7 professional.

HELP!!!!!

Open to suggestions.

Not sure how many people are looking at this these days.

Hello, sorry to hear your system went south.

I'm assuming your crash was on a client and you are trying to restore that client from the server backups.

I have done this a couple of times and both times I had the same problem seeing the server.
For some unknown reason, the folder that is made (my drivers) would not work both times I had to do this.

I had to use another pc and go out to the motherboard site and download the 32 bit NIC driver and put it on a thumbdrive, when the restore asks for any drivers you can tell it to look and it should find and install the NIC and then you will be able to find the server.

Hope this gets you started, shout out on how it goes.
Good Luck

So sorry, there are many different levels of knowledge and I assume to much.
Nic is short for the network card, where the network wire plugs in.
You will need to go to the web for your pc and lookup and see what nic card it uses and then try a google search for network card 32 bit drivers for it.

Most of the time the drivers in (My Drivers) folder are the 64 bit version of the drivers. Though they might give you a clue on what nic card you have, like, Intel / Atheros / Marvell / etc.

If you are unable to find them, I would need to know more info about your client:
Model
Service tag number
Etc.

Hope this helps....
P.S. No the exe will not work you will be looking for a niccarddriver.inf file. It will not say niccarddriver but it will end in .inf.

Found the trick for ya.
Download this driver, it comes as an exe, but once you have it, rename the exe to zip and it will open just like a zip file.
Copy all the contents to you thumbdrive and tell the client to look for new drivers.
It should find the files and show with a new nic card.
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/downloads/eula/23793/LAN-Intel-Gigabit-Network-Connection-Driver-for-Windows-7-?httpDown=https%3A%2F%2Fdownloadmirror.intel.com%2F23793%2Fa08%2FLAN_Win7_32_PROWin_19.1.exe

If that link does not work:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23793/LAN-Intel-Gigabit-Network-Connection-Driver-for-Windows-7-?product=55744 pic the 32 bit driver.

LAN_Win7_32_PROWin_19.1.exe
to
LAN_Win7_32_PROWin_19.1.zip

Then it should find the server.
Goodluck

You are almost there:
Yes you should restore both, without the system partition your system will not bootup.
I made the mistake of not backing up the system partition because I figured windows would make a new one.
Wrong!
I ended up using BCDedit app to create a partition and then I had to use the windows install cd to recreate the system part (fixing system boot)

Good luck I have found it easier to just reload my pc's but we keep all our data on the server. Those that don't must do the recovery and hope for the best.
