Dbone1026 Hows the install of Ws2012 r2 going? its been a while but figured it would be nice to find out how others are fairing. Also your blog is not longer active (sad face).

Hey T-Bone

Hmmmm .... server has been hit or miss. I find that as long as I don't actually log in (so just let the server restart and sit at the log in page which still makes all folders accessible) I don't run into the issues. I do believe that there is some sort of hardware/software conflict that honestly either requires a complete reinstall or completely new hardware, but just something I don't have time or desire to investigate, especially since most cases the server streams without issue. Maybe one day I will look at it further, one day lol. I am debating whether or not I eventually move over to an AIO type solution (such as Synology).

Yeah I know what you mean. I have a love hate relationship with my install also. I have come to the opinion this isn't an OS for the whs hobbiest. Which leaves me at a conundrum, I am on the cusp of needing to build a server (my first actually) an I'm not sure if I'll reuse 2012 or go with 2011 whs, that is if I can find a install kit for it avail.

Part of my issues I believe was installing WS2012E when it was first publicly released, where the hardware/driver side had not been brought up to speed yet. I do think if I did the install now I would have better results (of course I am just guessing here).

Just to throw gas on the fire.
I purchased win 2012E and have had few problems with it, it is still a test/future server, but when I tried win2012R2 on the very same hardware, oh boy, it didn't last a day, had all kinds of problems with it, so wiped the drives and reinstalled Win2012E and have not looked back.
I will still be running whs v1 till it won't go any more, but win2012E will be my next server, unless I upgrade the x-510's to win2011.

Good luck on your adventures.....

Decided to bite the bullet and buy a Synology server. Really the only way I am going to fix my WS2012 issues is to do a rebuild which I really don't have the time or energy for. I will look to slowly migrate over to the Synology server over the next few months (It will be slow going transferring larger files over from my current server as it has a tendency on crapping out when doing this lol).

Synology  Well, a person has to do what ya have to do.
Microsoft is not doing themselves any favors these days, can't say I blame ya.

All they would have had to do is build whs v1 onto win2008 or even win2012E and we all would still be happy campers.

Goodluck with your move, I know you have lots to do....
