I think just about anything that will run in the EX490 and EX495. I've got an E5300 ensconced in my EX487, but you can even run some of the quads -- try to stick with the "s" versions of the quads if you go that route.

A good person to ask would be erail. He's got several EX servers and would be an excellent authoritative source.

Hi All,

I'm attempting to download the BIOS file to allow for a CPU upgrade. However, it seems like the link is dead - I tried several times yesterday as well as today.

Can someone please upload the file to a different host and post the link?

Thanks!!

For what it's worth, this works fine with my Q8200S.

Thanks for providing BIOS mod. It allowed me to upgrade EX485 to E8400 and to now restart reliably.

To "peste19" to get the fan speed changed on any server other then the ex-470 you will need in the bios, which means you will need to have the vga adapter and the Jumper to unlock the bios.
I have not actually gotten into the bios because I use the Red drives and have used the silver cpu paste and it actully runs cooler then it did with the stock cpu. I have seen a few threads with pictures on adjusting the bios.
With some searching, you should be able to find them.

Good Luck If you are able to do it, please share, it may help others.

Thanks for the BIOS mod and sorry for posting so late in this thread.
I have an EX485 running Debian with an E5300 processor and I was just going to post a question about powering off the box from Linux.
Will your patched BIOS allow that ?
Is there any way to flash it from Linux (with flashrom or something similar) or it's really not recommended ?
Another thing I would really like is to power it through Wake on Lan. Has anybody been able to accomplish that ?

Btw 2019 almost ended, and Ex485 is still alive an kicking with 4Tb HDDs and Synology DSM 6.2 installed.

I had this BIOS for several years and just noticed that Always On / Last state does not work. It does not start after power loss, have to power on manually. Can anyone confirm it (with this BIOS or stock one)?

And this is real pain because I put it to remote location that get hours long blackouts regulatory - UPS present, but not helping. I wonder why it not working. I also changed power supply year ago and keep VGA cable and BIOS pin connected. Can it be an aftermarket PSU causing it.

OP hasn't posted since Mar 01, 2011. Anyone else out there using this BIOS mod that can offer advice?
