So I have been wanting to install Ubuntu on my Mediasmart.
I bought the debug cable from cakalapati and it works great, I was able to connect it and install ubuntu onto my USB drive.

So my problem I am facing right now is I am trying to put 4x 3tb hard drives into my Mediasmart Server. I am only able to see 2 out of the 4 drives

Does anyone have any ideas?

thanks

Hey will.w,

Did you ever get this working? I don't have the debug cable, but installed a 1 TB system drive on the machine with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS without issue - but as soon as I put in one of the 3 TB drives (WD30EZRX), it fails to boot.

Did you have to tweak the drivers in Ubuntu at all to recognize any of the drives?

I'm in the same boat with you guys. I was able to only get 2 of the 4 slots working (slot #2 and slot #4). When i try to put a drive in slot #3, it stops working. When I try to put a drive in #1, it works but Ubuntu doesn't pick up.

I don't have the debug board yet to tell you anything, but when i do, I'll tell you. I'm getting the one with the serial connection.

Sorry for the necropost but had a similar issue and was able to solve it. Glad to see others were having a hell of a time with this too! Got three drives to work and initialize in Debian Wheezy.

Here are the specs:

HP MediaSmart Server EX470
2gb ram
Debian Wheezy 7.7 kernel 3.2.63-2+deb7u1
sda - boot drive (Lowest bay of the MediaServer)
sdb - 500gb Segate (Second lowest bay)
sdc - 500gb Seagate (Third lowest bay)
sdd - 250mb recovery partition

I messed around with all the settings in the bios I could find and nothing worked so went into the bios and selected the option to load fail safe configuration. Once there I configured the rest of the bios settings according the attached images. (Not sure how to make them show inline, sorry). Restarted and the output of lsblk now shows all three drives as useable!

Quote:
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
sda 8:0 0 37.3G 0 disk
├─sda1 8:1 0 0 part
... (shortened for brevity)
sdc 8:32 0 465.8G 0 disk
└─sdc1 8:33 0 465.8G 0 part
sdb 8:16 0 465.8G 0 disk
└─sdb1 8:17 0 465.8G 0 part
sdd 8:48 0 247.5M 0 disk
└─sdd1 8:49 0 246.5M 0 part
