I ran across a deal where I can get the MV2120 for $130. I was thinking that I could use it to learn alittle bit more about linux. Im doing an internship here and Cali and I found out that they are moving from a windows enviorment to a linux enviorment. For 130 I didnt think this was to bad.

I have a few questions:

1) what is the max storage capacity of the server? I have 2x1.5tb drives I was thinking about adding, will this work?

2) can I use the appleTV with this server?

3) are there any drawback to the MediaVault?

4) can the mediasmart server and mediavault be on the same network?

5) should i forget abot this all together an get another 2tb drive for my MSS

6) is the memory expandable?

7) if not is the default sufficiant?

No, 2x1TB is max internal.

Yes. It runs Twonky server and Firefly.

There is no option for display output. It's not as cool as something you could build yourself.

yes!

130$ is not a bad deal for a sandbox linux file/web server, a 500GB HDD, and a nice black box that you can use as an enclosure if you ever decide to change the SOC inside. Those are the biggest pros to me.

no

sufficient for streaming, running a very low traffic web server or router (or NAS) .. in other words yes. what else would you do on this?

Thanks for the reply. Good info. The appletv unfortunately can't recognize twonky. I'm not sure how firefly works but I'm going to guess that doesn't work either. Kind of disappointing.
