Hello, I just ordered my HP Media Vault mv2120 but I was wondering if you could help me out to clear up couple of questions. First I was wondering what distro is this server running and if you are able to replace the current distro and install for instance Debian.

If not, I was wondering if it's possible to install packages, such as MySQL, sendmail, proftp and so on. What I basically want is being able install any type of linux packages, such as hosting a website running MySQL, PHP using any FTP server as well. I'm not too interested on using HP's software, Im more interested using it with SSH remotely. mainly. Thanks in advance.

I would also like to know many of the questions that have been asked here. Any input to help us would be appreciated.

I hope I am not overstepping the bounds here....

But you need to be talking to Lee Devlin (I think that's his name) over in YAHOO GROUPS ... there is a HPMediaVault group and also a HAcking HPMediavault group over there that are 2nd to none.

I hope you get your answers here, but Lee and his group of fanactics is the place to be.

It's linked at the top of this forum, as the Best MediaVault resource.

It runs BusyBox by default, but you can very easily turn it into a full fledged debian with all the goodies.
