Hate to be a killjoy, but I can't believe that each one being individualized would be cost effective. They look cool, but would you support an increase in your bill from the electric company to do this? Of course, utility rates are set based on recovery of cost in most states. Meaning that higher costs are passed on to consumers.

I think I can live with monotonous design and save on my electric bill.

But very cool designs they are!

Jim

You certainly have a valid point. To me, having more interesting surroundings is worth some amount of additional cost, so depending on how much my bill would go up I would consider it. Much like I'll pay a few cents more to know that some of my power comes from wind farms in Colorado and Wyoming. It's disappointing that so many of our decisions come down to a simple question of a few cents out of our pockets right now, it's very short sighted IMHO. This is in no way a statement about you, more a generalization on our culture.

I understand where you are coming from. However, don't underestimate the importance of competitively priced power.

Industries have been known to relocate from high-cost sites to low-cost ones based on power costs. Just ask anyone who used to work in primary aluminum plants in western Europe how they like not working due to the higher costs of power that higher energy taxes triggered in the 1990's. Or the SWA guys in West Virginia who lost jobs at Ormet, largely due to rate increases that made their cost structure uncompetitive.

We need to be very careful when it comes to increasing power costs. Unintended consequences have been known to happen...and while I think those towers are cool, I know of too many folks that have lost very good jobs as a result of costs becoming uncompetitive. What seems to be only a few cents now can add up.
