How do I enable UPnP on my AT&T U-Verse router, which is a 2-Wire Router, so I can use it with my HP Mediasmart Server?

There is some info here.

I'm not sure if it's the solution.

From my limited experience, you can not enable UPnP on these routers, as AT&T considers it to be a security issue. The link provided above should give you the details you need to set up port forwarding so your MSS will work with Remote Access. If not and you need more help, post up here or in the other U-Verse thread.

Any movement on this topic? Got this error using network attached storage: "Your network router could not be configured to enable or disable remote access. This can occur when your router does not have UPnP enabled or the required port cannot be opened or closed." I have U-Verse. Discovered this online: "you can not enable UPnP on these routers, as AT&T considers it to be a security issue." Router is the FR-8PTGSW from Fry's. Time for Time Warner instead of U-Verse? I am just outside of Austin, Texas.

The 2WIRE routers used by AT&T U-verse do NOT support UPnP. You have to set up the port forwarding manually. Fortunately it's not too difficult of a task. You just have to pull up the router's homepage (default http://192.168.1.254), and then select (at the bottom of the page) Gaming and Communications. This lets you configure your firewall settings.

Your home server should show up in the device list. My server's name is BARONESS, and that name appeared in the list.

I created a custom application called Windows Home Server and forwarded the ports 80, 443 and 4125--the three that WHS wants to forward. I then assign the application Windows Home Server to BARONESS. In doing so, all three ports are forwarded to that server.

The advantage of associating the application to the device is that if the device's IP changes later (BARONESS uses DHCP), the forwarders won't break.

I've attached a screen snip of my configuration. This is for WHS v1. The procedures for WHS 2011 are very similar, if not identical.
