Poor Dbone, we destroyed his thread... :-({|=

Haha, as if I haven't done any damage to threads out there :chainsaw:
As much as I agree we need to try and keep the threads as on topic as possible, I have enjoyed reading comments from people who I would consider experts or at least on a different level then me, so no objections by me on this thread as it is a great learning experience...

Well Dbone, I'm going to bring this post right back on track, I have decided that I am going to purchase the N Repeater/expander you originally started this topic over. It's cold here in my region and I don't feel like running cable right now so for the money I think the repeater will do what I need. I'll have to follow up and post my results. I'm going to order it from Tiger Direct this weekend so it will probably take a week or so to get it.
Thanks to All!

Alright, It's time to follow up... I had no luck with the range extender, the only way I could connect to it was with no securities in place, and the signal was lower than without the range extender. I use WPA2-PSK and Mac filtering on my home network, the device claimed it supported it, spent 3 hours on the phone with tech support and they could'nt figure it out either. We tried using wep only, any time security was implemented the unit failed to connect with my router. Finally tech support told me to send it back.

I exchanged it for a powerline network which also I cannot get to connect. I have switched breakers around and verified that the two outlets are both on the same pole in the box. I can only get 1 outlet downstairs to connect and it shows to be low quality on the powerline software, not to mention in order to access that outlet I will have to drill holes and run cable anyway. Very aggrevated here. Have not called tech support yet on that item due to a system crash on my dual boot pc which I will be asking questions on in another topic. http://www.mediasmartserver.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3151 Should of just run cable. that will probably be what I end up doing to resolve this problem.

Really sorry to hear that. I have just decided that running cable is the way to go as well. My powerline is too inconsistent and the signal strength changes drastically just moving from one room to the next.

Yeah, I have to agree, I don't even think I'll call tech support, I'm sure all they'll tell me to do is call an electrician! Hopefully tiger direct will give me another exchange. I could use another HD for WHS (LOL)
