Is anyone using or has anyone tried the Windows Live Mesh?

I have been playing around with it all night.

It does some pretty neat & cool things. I can see great potential for the right person.

#1. Remote Connect to any of your PCs
#2. 5GB of free online storage. (Actually, not meant for storage but you still could.)
#3. No more need to carry Thumbdrives back and forth from home & work.

Only downside for me is that, While it is all cool I can't figure how useful it would actually come in for an ordinary shlub like me.

If anyone is using it, Some feed back on the how & why would be appreciated so that I can get an idea on what the full potential is.

I have had it installed on my Vista desktop for months, but not really doing anything useful with it. Mostly I have my most essential files going to my live desktop where they would be accessible from anywhere. This includes my OneNote files, Outlook, and my keepass database. Sure, I can do this with WHS's remote access feature, but Live Mesh is not limited to my home's upload speed.

When I initially installed it, I had hopes for syncing files with my Mac, only to find out the Mac client was not available yet. Well, I recently learned that that a Mac client is available now... but it requires Mac OS X 10.5 and I only have 10.4. So I ordered Leopard and should hopefully be able to test that part of it soon. I could have synced with my Mac under a Windows VM, just never had a compelling reason to set it up yet.

By the way, if you have a Windows Live Account, you also have access to Skydrive which gives you another 5 GB of free online storage.

I've been playing with it a while, and it is indeed pretty good. There is some Home Server integration to come, worth watching the PDC video where they unveil a sneak preview of it in action.

I have never heard of Live Mesh before until reading this post. Thanks for bringing awareness to it CBick. I asked in a past post if there was something that would help one to synchronize files between Mac and PC with no response at the time. I'm now wondering if Live Mesh is the potential solution.

I wish the video that Cougar posted had speaker notes or an executive summary. It's an hour long!!!

I'm off now to investigate Mesh.

As a matter of fact I do have a Live account from when I switched AV to Windows Live Onecare last week.

Thanks for the pointer to Skydive MeSue! ( And all of the calender and other functions Windows Live offers)

Question : Am I wrong, or does Live Mesh & Skydive do basicly the same thing?

With the exception of file syncing & remote access.

(Crazy! Dell just sent me an eMail wanting me to try out thier remote access software for onlt $9.95 per month, when you can use Live Mesh for free.)

I am trying to get more organized and efficent at work & therefore looking for anything that would give me a leg up.
