Did you check the sound settings, possibly the settings for the CD Player are muted out somehow?

Pretty sure it's a motherboard issue, suggest you contact them.

Also, could we all PLEASE stop imbedding so many quotes? A little cut and paste won't kill any one. This thread is getting very hard to read...

Good idea on minimizing the embedded quotes.
Yes, I checked the sounds settings (more than once!) and all appears OK there. Thanks.
I'll try to contact Zotac, though in the meantime if anyone has any more ideas about what to try please let me know. I don't imagine they'll answer email or phone over the weekend. I appreciate all the efforts to help.

 A lesson re-learned: Don't get too excited and forget the basics. Although I installed the drivers that came with the mobo, I should have taken the time to update them from nVidia - there was a 1/8/09 update. Since my HTPC isn't online yet (wiring tasks remain, and not looking like I'll have time this weekend), I put them on a flash drive and did the update. Presto -- now I have sound via HDMI when playing DVDs. It doesn't work in Windows Media Player 11, but does work with the outdated version of PowerDVD that came with the drive.

Blu-ray doesn't work at all yet -- no video or audio. But I'll wait until I can get online and update everything before seeking help this time.

Thanks to all.

And I hope you get your case back Monday, Damian!

So bad news, I installed everything in the case, hit the power button and nothing... I don't think it could be another bad PSU, as the LCD screen lights up. So only two things I can think of, either the power switch is bad or the mobo is busted. What do you guys think, I should still get some sign of life if the mobo was busted?? Not a happy person as this is all because I got a bad PSU and newegg just couldn't send me a new one... ](*,)

You sure you got the power switch wired up correctly? Start with the simplest config, all you need is motherboard, CPU, memory, and video.

Yeah, I unplugged the power sw and plugged it back in. Tried putting it in the opposite way as well and nothing... Unfortunately I have to be in at work at 4am tomorrow so gotta wrap things up now. I will just take another crack at it tomorrow, unplug and redo all the wiring  Thanks Yak

Dumbass here, thought I would give an update on my HTPC. I unplugged everything and just ran with the base (although from a quick look I knew what the issue was as soon as I opened the case), and got everything working. I had looked over the first HTPC I built quickly yesterday before I put together the new one. The HEC case uses the sys_fan slot for the case fan. With the Antec case, the system fans (2) are powered via the molex connectors on the PSU, not the sys_fan. There is a connector on the PSU that looks exactly like the system fan connector from the HEC case, so I inadventantly plugged that into the sys_fan slot on the mobo... Problem solved, HTPC is up and running!!! Funny enough I had been emailing back and forth with John. He checked his mobo to see if there was a standby led, and happened to mention that he had never plugged the HEC case fan into the sys_fan slot. Once He mentioned that I knew were I had f'd up...

OK, now onto something else I can break.
