Heard an interesting rumor today.... Microsoft may (will probably?) incorporate the Data Extender logic into Windows in the next iteration thereof! Need more disk space? Drop in a drive, any drive! Need the security of drive protection? Turn on Duplication! My understanding it that this implementation would allow duplication of the C: drive as well as others...

I have NO idea whether this is a valid insight or strictly a "pipe dream" that has gone amok, but it is an interesting concept!

Anyone else heard this?

Whenever I hear rumors, I gotta ask for the source... ;)

It seems to me they would need some improvements to how the drives are represented, since WHS currently doesn't accurately differentiate between the various drives in the system. If I have 2-3 500GB drives in my desktop with Drive Extender, and one drive fails, how do I know which one to replace? There are some obvious benefits to this, though I have to wonder how WHS would back it up... :hm: Intriguing idea!
