Look at what's on Tiger Direct:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4133908

It's customizable...It's really a pre-built server, not on the small scale of the MSS. Wonder if this might hasten 'Encore". :?:

Kudos to WGS for the point...

Watch the video...the poor jerk doesn't know WTF he's talking about. Not a clue....

That's one ugly case - and it doesn't say how MUCH DDR2 PC6400 RAM it has!

It's REALLY wide - for no real reason other than to put front USB ports down the sides.

It starts with 1gb, says 2 is the limit but I bet the ASUS board goes higher. Specs are hard to come by (save your energy, it doesn't exist on the Systemax site and nothing more on :google: so far.) As to the case, the video pushes the "no light show, stick it in the closet" way of things.

You can build it a bit cheaper, but if you don't build, it's interesting. The Celeron DC should be more than sufficient CPU (and the alternative is a Pentium??).

I want to know:

How many internal drive bays :?:

what's the PSU :?:

And yes, I have discovered the :?: and promise to stop using it.

Looking at the pictures there’s no esata – that’s a major drawback to me, considering it’s like 100-200 more than the hp

Motherboard specs (Not sure if I can post a link)

http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3& ... odelmenu=2

Not to bad for a small server box. 4gb dual channel ram max and 4 sata ports.

The four sata ports is a killer for me. There are plenty of cheap boards with 6.

yeah- but that was a year ago.

their hardware isn't generations better - certainly in some ways it's worse- no esata, no hot swap drives, bigger box, intel processor so probably more energy, etc...

It's an apples to oranges comparison...this is somewhere in the middle of the field, based on the assumption that we will be seeing something from HP soon. I wouldn't buy it.

agreed it's tough to compare one to another- but still you can get an ex470 for a bunch less and if you use whs "for what it's supposed to be used for" then there's not really a major difference.

Now if you toy with it like a lot of us here then that's another issue.... :)
