My Norton Internet Security 2007 recently ran out of it's subscription on my Vista machine, and I'm in the process of finding a new one. I was going to get NIS 2009, but have read a few forums where people are having issues with it (both XP and Vista). The new 2009 is supposed to be lighter and less memory taxing than the older versions, so I was interested in trying it, but on the other hand I don't want to fight with it. Both PC Mag and CNET's Download.com give NIS 2009 great reviews.
Can you guys recommend a good Anti-virus program or suite? Or if you use NIS 2009 on your Vista machine and don't have issues, please chime in.

Thanks guys!!

I use the Windows Live OneCare on my Vista machine and F-Secure on my WHS/MSS.

My newest Dell notebook came with Trend Micro.

I liked the fact that it does not seem to slow my computers down like Mckafee & Norton do.

It came with a licence for 3 pc's so I removed Norton and added Trend to my all of my pc's.

I use Avast on my MMS.

I used to run symantec corporate on all our machines... but after I caught a few obscure viruses that it let through I switched to avira (free) and now recommend it to others.

Check out the latest AV-test.org rankings: http://www.virusbtn.com/news/2008/09_02

If you end up going the same route there's a relatively easy way to get rid of the occasional "buy the premium version" pop-ups you get with the free avira... (see google or PM for details)

Thank guys for the recommendations!!

It doesn't look like there is a stand out winner right now. I do read about a lot of members using Avast on their MSS though.

My vote is for Windows One Live Care. Just bought another year recently, so I guess I like it well enough. I like it because it does the job without being overly complex or bugging the crap out of me.

I bought the WHS version of avast this past weekend. I like the fact that I can schedule scans on the clients from the Console. I used Windows Live OneCare previously but got tired of it being unaware that the clients had been backed up by the MSS and it kept the health indicator either yellow or red. I actually liked it outside of the aforementioned issue. It did seem to integrate quite seamlessly with both XP and Vista.

I have to agree that I an VERY disappointed that OneCare, almost a year after the release of WHS, does not:

    1. Recognize WHS backups as an alternative backup method,
    2. Does not integrate into WHS

I would have expected better since my WHS/MSS is a logical part og my OneCare "circle".

Yep. If the integration was there I would have stayed with it. One of the things I liked best was the firewall in OneCare recognized many programs and unobtrusively allowed them through. I'll re-evaluate in a year when my avast subscription is up for renewal.

I started with OneCare as it was about the only thing available in the very early days of Vista and renewed it for that very reason. It is a shame that it is not integrated with WHS yet.

Agreed. Your health gets dinged because you're not backing up. (according to OneCare) When I renewed about a month ago, it reconized that I had Windows Home Server and recommended that I use that for backup. So there is some attempt at intergration, but it's not there yet.

I've had Norton, Mccafee, AVG and Trend Micro. Regardless of what the issues are I'm sticking with OneCare.

Unreal... I have just checked for updates and my OneCare is up to date. There is NO mention of WHS backups when I use it. (I last renewed in May, by the way.)

I havent had any issues with OneCare. I actually dumped Zone Alarm Security Suite back in March for OneCare even though my ZASS sub didnt expire until July. That is how disgusted I was of ZASS for Vista. They used to make the top rated product but it has been crap since Vista. They went insofar as to admit their quality control slipped and they were making poor products.

OneCare works well and is not at all a resource hog, does not delay the boot or shut down of the machine, nor does it cause any lag time like Norton and McAfee does.

I agree with you but the lack of integration with WHS was the kicker for me.
