which one did you order? I am using the Pi2. If you are ambitious enough, its mostly strait forward. When you load up your Pi for the first time, (make sure its internet connected) it'll ask you how you want to boot it. scrolling down that list there is a 'xbmc" or "OSMC" option. select it and it loads the s/w for you ;-)

once booted you can still use a KB and mouse to it. (I have a infared PC remote so I dont have a either of those but still). I played around in the menus until it did what i wanted.

So I've just been given a Raspberry Pi and now trying to work out what to do with it. Steep learning curve, and seems quite a few things to play with, anyone hooked one up to WHS or anything else that could be worth looking at?

Kind of fun, easy to setup and probably right up your alley as its not strictly gui based Might have a go on XBMC and see how that pans out but quite like the idea of breaking out a soldering iron and slapping a small lcd screen on it for no other reason than I can.

I too am interested in hearing what you find out. I am particularly interested in how well XBMC will work on this. It's a very affordable option to put in kids rooms for them to watch stuff on XBMC.

I installed XBMC on my Raspberry Pi and found it to be very slow. Definitely no better than Plex on my Roku boxes. For what it's worth, I followed these instructions: http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/571

I realize this is digging up an old thread. But I use the rPi2 for my mediacenter to my EX485. Runs great. only qualms i have about it is that since i add/update my library so often i have to re-scan it. Other than that I love the OSMC (new XBMC for Pi).. it grabs media info, supports digital surround sound and isnt too horrible on wifi.. though I do have it plugged in -Justin

Justin do you mind posting links to documentation on how you set up your Raspberry Pi? I ordered one off of Amazon and it just came yesterday. I'm eager to start tinkering, but want to read documentation before jumping in.

I haven't had a chance to look into it more. I ordered one of the Canakit sets, which came with resistors, a breadboard, wires, a case, etc. Between the holidays my family and I went to Disney World, so I wasn't doing any tinkering. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll be able to take a better look.

I'd recommend using Xbian XBMC for the RaspberryPi. It's a fairly quick, stable version. I've tried OpenElec before and had some performance issues with it. The Pi2 can be slightly overclocked to safe levels which help with performance.
