HP MSS DataVault X510
Core 2 Quad Core Q9550s
4GB Mushkin Ram

I'm posting here instead of the market place because, I havn't fully decided if I'm ready to sell or not.

Now that I've got my WHS2011 system up and running, I'm considering selling my Data Vault.

Key words THINKING & SELLING.

I have no plans to, give it a way cheaply, like I did my EX470.

I've got a number in my head which, I belive it's worth. I would rather give it away, to one of my friends or relatives than, take less than the price I'm thinking of.

Anyway, I would like some input and opinions to make sure, that i'm not completly off with my valuation.

Couple questions,

1 - Single disk 1.5 TB?

Assuming a single disk with that awesome core2 quad and memory upgrade I suspect you could probably e-bay it for $600 or more. As a matter of fact, I'd probably pull the 9550 and put the e5200 back in and I bet you'd still get upwards of $500. The ex49X and X510's are still very popular on e-bay. Then I would sell the Q9550S seperately as I suspect that processor alone is worth $200-250

Sorry to anybody reading this hoping to get a lowballer deal but those are still some very valuable gears there CBick.

2 - I have a spare stock ex470 (actually it has 1GB of RAM not the stock 512MB) and I am considering selling it as well, curious what you let yours go for? If you don't want to mention that in the public forum, I understand if you refrain from answering. I have refurbed it very nicely as when I got it, it was a complete mess, the NIC id dead and it requires a USB NIC for operation but is still serivceable now that it has been thouroughly cleaned and maintained. I don't have any illusions though, I'm pretty much ready to let it go for a really good price, but am curious what you let yours go for.

No, I'm not afraid.

I sold it for $100 without any hard drives.

I was actually surprised at how little interest I recieved on it.

I only had 5 people show any interest and, only 2 of them made offers. One offer about 30 minutes after posting it here and over at HomeServerShow.com.
The last offer this past saturday evening.

The first offer was for $100 from a real likable guy, who truly seemed interested and excited but, low on funds.

He contacted me several more times and offered to sweeten the deal with some spare memory that he had.

Saturday evening, I was offered $150 from a person who didn't seem nearly as excited as the first guy so, I sold to the first buyer.

Don't get me wrong, $50 bucks is still $50 bucks, but whats $50 really in the grand scheme of things? I would have just blown it on lottery tickets and candy bars :D

I had honestly expected to recieve closer to $300 for it. And, probably could have, if I had been willing to, mess with ebay or, part it out. ( Which I wasn't willing to do!)

I'm glad to see that, my expectations about the Data Vault are in line with yours. \:D/

Regards
Chris

Hey CBick, mind asking why you are thinking of selling it?

are you looking at getting a different server box? I have been thinking of doing the same as there are other temping units out there but I am giving the MSS a bit more

I have built a WHS2011 box that is sitting beside my WHSv1 unit.
WHS2011 seems to work fine for what i need so, I've decided to clear out some of the clutter while, the DataVault still has some value left in it.

Before, the next gen of WHS is released and everyone leapfrogs WHS2011 to upgrade. :whs:

Are you willing to sell the processor separately or do a swap?

And I have a feeling a Windows 8 verions of WHS will run just fine on our units.

I sold the stock CPU when I upgraded it.

Not sure about Swap I guess it would depend on the deal.
