DOH!

Been a long day....

Thanks for pointing out the very obvious text that I just happened to not see...

Loving the options this opens up for me...no more having to use an USB VGA card and RDP for the "tricky" solutions.

Thanks again,
Craig.

My experience is that you'll get an email response within a day, but it may vary depending on workload.

Email responses vary based on workload. I am usually very good at responding to emails, but if it's been 3 days, then simply send another email. Every now and then, an email does slips through the radars. It does not happen often but you never know.

Hi,
i have just received my GEN3 cable/kit and have just finished mounting it. To my disappointment i can't get it to work. It should be simple, but my screen appears as it has no signal (black screen). My mediaserver shows purple color in the health LED and RED on my harddrive LED. Any suggestion are welcome as my head is about to explode :(

Rgds,
Michael

Are all your HDD LEDs red immediately after powering on the server? If so this means a hardware failure has occurred. :(

Hi Michael,

Sorry to hear about your problems. I strive at making my customers happy so I can help you in whatever way I can. By any chance though, can you double check the cable is seated properly in the motherboard connector? I have had two people in the past contact me that the cable does not work, only to later realize that the cable got partially dislodged when they reassembled their MediaSmart Server. I'm not sure if this is what's happening with you but it's worth giving it a try.

Hi,
thanks for your prompt replies. Yes all HDD LEDs are showing red. I got "power" LED showing blue, Health indicator LED purple and the network LED showing blue. If it means a Hardware failure what could it be? It can not be the powersupply. Could it be the RAM? or do you have any suggestions/experiences in what it might be. I hope it is not the motherboard :(

Also i have double checked the mounting of the cable it is attached properly..... What about the jumper that i got with the cable, should this be inserted as well.

Rgds,
michael

Anyone have an interesting idea for mounting the adaptor permantly without using a drive bay? And if so, got pictures?

I mounted my adapters on the side of the MSS. If you take a dremel and use a burr you can remove enough plastic from the plastic components thats under the front grill to allow the cable to be run to the front of the MSS then out the side. The hardest part will be getting the grill back on which is always a challenge to seat the left side so that the tabs engage properly. Here are some pics to show you what I have done with two MSS units.

My way might not be the best way but it does allow you to remove the motherboard PSU assy for servicing also I used Velro to attact the DEBUG Connector to the side of the MSS so that it will stay in place and still be easily removed should servicing be required. My feeling was the MSS component population was tight enough and I did not want to create an issue with cables snagging as I am a firm believer in simplicity and servicability.

Another forum member ran the cable to the top of his EX490 and left the cable here so that when he needed to use his DEBUG connector all he had to do was pop to the top can connect it.

All,
just to let you know my server is up and running with the Gen3 cable installed. I disassembled my server and its components and put it all together again. Now it is working.

Rgds,
Michael
