Post subject:  Shutting Down - Business for Sale

Good afternoon friends,

After much prayerful and careful consideration, I am shutting down my software business Dojo North Software, LLC, and am looking to sell all of my intellectual property, license/customer database, my licenses to a few third-party tools, and optionally all associated hardware.

If you are interested, have questions, want pictures, details, etc. please email me directly @ msawyer91@dojonorthsoftware.net.

TL;DR
For sale is the source code to all of my WindowSMART and Home Server SMART applications, as well as an unreleased application, EZ BitLocker Manager. This includes the web-based license generator that is triggered by PayPal and FastSpring and a manual license generator. My licenses to the third-party tools Eazfuscator, Chilkat, and SolarWinds MFT Server are also included, as well as my license/client database which I exported from GoDaddy. I am asking $5500 USD.

Optionally if you would like all of my hardware (four desktops-turned-servers, three laptops, wireless router, cable modem, two monitors, and a mountain of about 30 hard drives about 20 various SSDs used for testing (most of these are in the various computers), the total asking price is $8000 USD.

LONG VERSION
I started my business in 2003 doing freelance web design. In 2010, after seeing the concern of users on MediaSmartServer.net regarding failing hard drives in Windows Home Server, I released Home Server SMART as a freeware (or “donate-ware”) application. I later added WindowSMART, a shareware application. I also put quite a bit of work into EZ BitLocker Manager, an interface designed for businesses to make it easy for users to readily encrypt and decrypt all of their devices, including flash drives.

In the summer of 2010, my wife was laid off after 10 years of service to HP (we both started at EDS, but HP bought EDS in 2008). She chose to go back to school, so the loss of income plus taking on student loans, and a 4-month-old baby, meant I needed to invest more in my software to help supplement the income. A little over a year after being laid off, my wife was back to work, but I kept up my work on my software.

In late 2015, I chose to leave HP as it seemed to be a sinking ship, and hoped to find greener pa$ture$. That I did. My new employer, who I am still with today, is a much better place to work. I found that I didn’t need to invest as much time into my software, and now it’s at a point where it needs care and feeding. I’ve updated it over the years to support newer SSDs, although I haven’t released a new version in a long time.

Why am I selling? Quite frankly, I don’t have the time to invest in these endeavors. I want to spend my free time with my family. I don’t want to be the dad who misses my daughter’s choir performance or son’s basketball game. Since I have full-time employment, these software projects have been on the back burner. As much as I hate to see them go, it is the right thing to do. It’s time to pass the baton to someone who can pick them up and run with them.

My single largest license sale was to a home décor manufacturer in Arkansas in June 2018 - $6000!

That being said, here is what is for sale:
- WindowSMART/Home Server SMART source code (predominantly C#, about 5% C++; this is a Visual Studio 2010 solution (there’s a third-party helper from Tentacle Software that builds an intermediate installer for Home Server SMART that doesn’t work on later Visual Studio versions)
- Home Server SMART “Classic” source code (also C#, with about 5% C++; this is a Visual Studio 2008 solution, and is designed specifically to run only on the first version of Windows Home Server)
- EZ BitLocker Manager source code (all C#, VS 2010 but can be bumped up to a later version)
- All website files, especially the license generator that is kicked off by PayPal IPN and FastSpring (PayPal is the payment processor for home users; FastSpring for businesses)
- Manual license keygen tool – this is a small utility that I can run should a user reach out and say they didn’t get their key
- License key / customer database – I exported this from GoDaddy before beginning the decommissioning of website assets; it is a MS SQL 2005 database
- Licenses to Eazfuscator, Chilkat, and SolarWinds MFT server. Eazfuscator is a code obfuscation tool; Chilkat is a suite of helpers that provide functionality like encrypted zip files, secure FTP, etc.; SolarWinds MFT I use for secure FTP for users to upload logs and bug reports

I am asking $5500 for everything above

Optionally, for an additional $2500 (for a total of $8000), I will include all of the hardware I’ve used for development, testing, and FTP log uploads over the years. This includes
• 3 x HP MediaSmart Servers each with 4GB RAM, Windows Server 2019, 1 x SSD, 3 x HDD
• Asus desktop with 2 x SSD, 5 x HDD (varying capacities)
• Dell laptop used for development
• Fujitsu laptop used for testing
• Piles of hard drives and SSDs I have laying around, some of which have been powered on only once or twice and run for no more than a day or two
• Netgear Nighthawk wireless router (AC1900 / R7000)
• Motorola Surfboard DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem
• HP laptop with broken screen but it has an external monitor that I use on it
• Two monitors (1 x DVI, 1 x HDMI)

Thanks Alex. You are absolutely right...spending time with the family is so valuable. I certainly don't want to get to the pearly gates wishing I had done this, wishing I had done that with my family.
