Necro, are you sure about ComCast and Port 80? I live "down the street" from you in Dallas and have never had a problem with ComCast blocking anything.

For some odd reason, the router kept dropping the IP address constantly when configured using the (supported) uPnP autoconfiguration.

Since I changed the setting to a static IP address, manually forwarded the ports and disabled the uPnP function, the router works stable. No more dropped signals, reliable connections inside the network and remote access connections from the outside. Before I had to reboot the router every other day or so. Now, for the past four weeks (since changing the IP address to static) no reboot was required.

I wonder other users experienced the same kind of problem with their routers or if it is just a Belkin issue.

Router Manufacturer:ActionTec
Router Model:MI424-WR
Firmware Version: 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7
ISP: Verizon FIOS
Is UPnP supported?: Yes
Is UPnP enabled?: Yes
Did WHS Router config succeed?: Yes (see note)
Was manual Port Forwarding required?: No (see note)
Does Remote Access work?: Yes
Does ISP block any ports?: Yes, port 80
Any additional info/notes?: First set up of WHS I had to manually add the ports (80, 443, 4125) to gain Remote access. After I rebuilt MSS, I had trouble with Remote Desktop (outside of home) to connect properly. No matter what I tried, it failed. Problem was not the MSS as all worked properly at home from home. So, I reset the Router to Factory Specs and all worked fine after that.

Router Manufacturer: BT (BritishTelecom) UK

ISP: BT (British Telecom) UK
Is UPnP supported?: Yes
Is UPnP enabled?: Yes
Did WHS Router config succeed?: No
Was manual Port Forwarding required?: Yes
Does Remote Access work?: No
Does ISP block any ports?: No
Any additional info/notes?: With ports 80, 443 and 4125 forwarded I could access the HTTP web page using http://<WAN IP>/home from outside of my LAN and log in with a username and password but once I try to access folders or HP Webshare (HTTPS) it bombs out and gives me a DNS error. I used to use FTP and HTTP to acces my older HP Media Vault by remote access, somewhat frustrating that I can't do it on the MediaSmart Server. Tried using Port Detective and Shields UP! and all my ports are 'stealth' which probably isn't helping. Ports 443 and 4125 appear to be the problem as I used to use 80 and 21 wirthout any blips...just can't seem to identify any other ports that may be open either! :x Aaargghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Router Manufacturer: D-Link

Firmware Version: 1.6
ISP: Rogers Wireless
Is UPnP supported?: Yes
Is UPnP enabled?: Yes
Did WHS Router config succeed?: Yes
Was manual Port Forwarding required?: No

Any additional info/notes?: I actually downgraded from firmware v1.8 to v1.6 to get auto-config to work correctly. Incidentally, D-Link doesn't offer v1.8 of the firmware any longer. I can only guess they had problems with that version of the firmware and pulled it back. I used v1.6 instead of v1.7 because v1.6 is also certified XBox Live compatible - v1.7 is not.

Router Manufacturer:Gateway
Router Model:WGR-200
Firmware Version: V 1.21, Aug-14-2003
ISP:Comcast
Is UPnP supported?:Yes

Does Remote Access work?:until router re-assigns servers ip address
Does ISP block any ports?:No
Any additional info/notes?:This router works fine if you assign a static IP Address to your MSS. When using DHCP it fails to forward ports to servers new IP Address resulting in "port forwarding for your router has failed" message. Also, no Firmware upgrade was avaliable from Gateway.

Any additional info/notes?: This works just fine, no problems. I have, however, set up a fixed IP and forwarded ports 80, 443, 3389 and 4125 to avoid any potential difficulties after restarts. This was not "required" but after my first long-term power loss (during WHS Beta) I realized that on a restart the WHS unit may be assigned a different IP address.
