I put a vga cable in my ex485, and after that, it will not boot normally anymore.

When it boots, the status light flashes red 5 times, and then starts flashing blue. For some reason, it is always wanting to do a system restore.

I can get around this by changing the boot settings so that the hard drive is first in the boot order (normally the internal flash drive is first). If I do that, it boots and works fine. But I really should not have to change the bios settings for it to boot normally.

According to the wiki, five red flashes means multiple boot failures. Is this what is going on? If so, how do I figure out what the failures are?

Is your system drive in the bottom drive bay? Does the server boot normally with the VGA cable disconnected? Do you do anything else to the server at this time, such as try to load another OS?

Yes, the system drive is in the bottom drive bay.

No, the server does not boot normally after taking the vga cable out.

I didn't do anything else except do a server recovery once (since it kept wanting to do that). But even after that it still goes into recovery mode (unless I change the boot device order).
