Hi,

Could someone explain to me how the storagepool and folder duplication works in the following situation?

What happends with the shares which do not have folder duplication enabled once a harddisk in he storagepool failes?
- Do i lose the complete share? (ie. similar to RAID0, files are divided over multiple disks)
- Do i only lose the files which are stored on the failing harddisk? (ie. it leaves me with a incomplete share)

Thank you in advance.

Guus.

Welcome the forums.

The answer somewhat depends on how many drives are in the pool and how full they are but in general, for a share that duplication is turned "off", the data is placed where there is available space...it could be all on one drive or spread over two or more drives (if you have space in the pool)...but "related" files tend to be grouped by Drive Balancer. In any event, if a drive fails and duplication is off, what you lose will just depend on whether the data for that Share is all on that drive or some on that drive.

MS has some good info in the Technical Briefs under Drive Extender. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libr ... 9758(WS.10).aspx
