Post subject:  Flashing Aqua Health Light

Well, I have a problem. My server's health light is flashing aqua. The only other lights on are the two other aqua lights next to the health light. I've searched here & at the HP site & there is plenty of information about a flashing/solid red health light. I can't seem to find anything on a flashing aqua health light. Before this though, the side lights were on. I got this error:

Quote:
1 aqua white, 3 red Operating system USB boot failed. Check that lowest USB port on back of server has boot source.

which means exactly nothing to me. The server - ex485 - hasn't communicated with anything.

Do I need to do a reset? If so, what kind?

Thank you very much!

On 10/26/2009 Yakuza explained the flashing Blue Health Light as follows:

The blinking blue light is simply the default status of the MSS hardware when it is not given any instructions to change color. This means that the HP monitoring service has not started for some reason, usually because WHS has not booted fully or there is some issue that causes the service to crash. It does not have any specific value other than that.

Hope this helps.

Heh, I guess I should've put 'blue' in my search.

Thanks for that reference. I'm still a little unclear about it though. I guess I'm not really sure where to go from here. HP support?

Hpsi Epsi,

The light codes are ok at times when they provide you with information to perform the proper corrective action. The blinking blue lights is another story this requires you to do some server soul searching. Its for this reason that makes a headless server somewhat a challenge to work on because you often wonder if the problem is displayed in a post message during the boot process. You can get what people call a DEBUG Cable and add a monitor so you can see exactly what your server is doing during the boot process.

The other thing you can do is to RDP your server and troubleshoot from the desktop to check for device issues or services that could not be started for some reason and the event logs. If you have the Windows Home Server Tool Kit installed you can review the event logs from the Server Console.

If your not familiar with troubleshooting form the Servers Desktop it would best for you not to play around in there but you get a nice warning about that when you RDP your server anyway.

Good luck with your quest to solve the Blinking Blue Health Light. Should you find a solution please post it. It will help others but not all problems are identical but it will provide a starting point for others to look at and rule out.

You might try rebooting the server to see if that helps clear the problem.
