Post subject:  The xxx sensor is reporting xxx (it should be x and x)

Fresh from having resolved my esata issues, my application event log has started to fill with these types of events (every second for every sensor and sensor type: temperature, voltage, fan rpm)
Application Eventlog wrote:
The CPU temperature sensor is reporting 36 °C (it should be between 0 °C and 0 °C.)

I checked out my WNAS parameters in the registry (I played with these once before the fan control add-in came out) and everything looked normal...

I did see the one other thread kinda related to this topic but I didn't see anything conclusive.

Rebooting hasn't helped

Any ideas...?

Sounds like the ini file is possibly corrupted? Look for truncated file or strange characters in it. There's a restore.bat command which will replace it from backup (stored in the HP application folder in D:\folders\{6f*). Have you tried a reboot?

I found HP MediaSmart Server.ini & WHS-Settings.reg in the folder you specified... the ini looks okay except that it contains alot of white space before the actual [Server], [HPSU] and [Webshare] Sections begin. The reg looks like it contains only entries pertaining to the webshare.
Code:
D:\folders\{6F8B59FA-07A0-46D2-B10C-034EA1B39AB0}>dir *.bat /s
 Volume in drive D is DATA
 Volume Serial Number is C697-73AB

I did however find two bat files in the C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP MediaSmart Server folder...
Code:

 Volume in drive C is SYS
 Volume Serial Number is F4CF-B539

As mentioned I have rebooted (twice now) and everything in the WNAS registry looks ok at first glance:

Should I trying running that restoreHPData.bat file? Any other advice apart from an eventual system restore if I cant get to the bottom of it ? (I've always considered reinstalling/restoring a cop-out to proper problem solving)

Still combing the eventlog to see if there's anything that might help explain what's going on... here's the best crack at the culprit I've found:

There should be a backup of the ini, either in the HP Program Files dir, or in the application folder. I'd compare the backup to the current one, see if it's any different. You can email/pm it to me if you'd like me to compare it to mine.

The wnas registry entries are for the driver, while the ini file specifies the thresholds for the WHS services and notifications. Along with the closed connection for the webshare user report, this all makes me think that the configuration is hosed and some services aren't able to function properly, all of which is most likely related to a damaged ini file.

Ah.... I found HP MediaSmart Server.ini, HP MediaSmart Server.ini.bak and HP MediaSmart Server.old.ini in the C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP MediaSmart Server directory

The current HP MediaSmart Server.ini contains but a fraction of the 'bak' or 'old' (notice all the white space):
Code:

One thing I did notice is that the HP MediaSmart Server.old.ini contains some of my personal information while the HP MediaSmart Server.ini.bak doesn't...

Do you think I should try to graft all the missing sections between all the files (as mentioned, there's some variation in the 'bak' vs the 'old') to create the most complete .ini file possible or should I just use the .bak and the server will fill in the missing info on it's own?

Thanks for all the help (almost there!)...

Post subject:  Re: The xxx sensor is reporting xxx (it should be x and x)

Interesting....

FYI, my .ini and .ini.bak are both 3KB files and appear, at a VERY cursory glance, to be the same. My .old.ini file shows as 6KB -- but when edited it seems to be about the same number of lines as the others. The .ini file is dated as of my last restart, the .ini.bak is from 7/10/2008 and the .old.ini from 8/8/2008. Go figure...!

Here, in case it helps, are the voltage threshold settings in my .ini file are:
Code:
voltsVCCPWarn=930,1370
voltsVCCPCrit=900,1430
volts33VWarn=3069,3531
volts33VCrit=2970,3630
volts18VWarn=1674,1926
volts18VCrit=1620,1980
volts12VWarn=11160,12840
volts12VCrit=10800,13200
volts5VWarn=4650,5350
volts5VCrit=4500,5500
voltsAUXWarn=4650,5350
voltsAUXCrit=4500,5500

When I look and compare the three I cannot help but wonder if you might be better off attempting to edit your way into a corrected copy.

But either way, I did copy my current .ini into yet another backup before I left the directory!

Post subject:  Re: The xxx sensor is reporting xxx (it should be x and x)

I ended up using the HP MediaSmart Server.ini.bak file...

The server filled in my personal information (serial#, bios rev, webshare domain) but I had to go back into replace the %programfiles% references with that actual path to get rid of some related errors logged in the event viewer.

Everything's good and back to normal now. Thanks for all the help

Good to hear you got it working, sorry I wasn't more clear with my original suggestions. :oops:
