I have recently set up a MSS on a 2Wire router (no other choice for this install) from AT&T and am having an issue with the domain. I have enabled port forwarding and can access all systems from outside the network remotely, however when I try and set up email through Webshare, or the Remote Notification add-in, I get a configuration error box. Currently I am running my own WHS on a home made box with a Linksys WRT54G and the same settings work great. The Remote Notification on my WHS SMS's my cell phone with any WHS status change. I read one previous post about 2Wire and router behind the router but I am not sure if I should use an extra 5 port switch or need to use their "old" router behind the 2Wire.

In addition, when I ignore the error, after an hour it goes red again with the same error.

Any help would be appreciated.

I called HP support and they walked me through the 2Wire changes. I am getting the attached error with a HP MediaSmart Server. I use the Remote Notification add-in with my home-made Dell system and it works great. Could you let me know what the cause of this error is?

Thank you

(New Note: When I added the new application to the 2Wire firewall list I put all three ports in one application so I only had to add it once.)

That IP address resolves to mail.charter.net which would seemingly be correct, however the connection is being refused by that mail server. Are you sure the SMTP settings are exactly the same between your home-build and the MSS?

I just verified the information. I even tried the same information from my home built. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

If RemoteNotification works on one system in your home and not the other, using exactly the same settings, then I'm afraid I have few ideas. Did you install any firewall software on the server that could be blocking the outgoing request on port 25? Are you sure the username and password for authentication are the same? Are both servers going out of the 2wire router to the internet?

Two different systems. My system is a WRT54G through a Motorola Surfboard with Charter. Setup was easy from the start back in November. Their system is a 2Wire RG through AT&T. Been trying to get it right and dialed-in since X-mas.

I just added Port 25 to the 2Wire Firewall and I still get the error. I have nto made any firewall changes to the Server itself. I will try again in the morning. :x

Thank you again

Charter only allows access from their customers, so they will not allow you to send emails from your AT&T account. You need to configure Remote Notification to use your AT&T mail server settings, or use Gmail or some other web mail provider.

Gmail doesn't accept connections on port 25, try port 587 (documented on the first post of the Remote Notification topic).

Thank you for the solution. My cell just received the alert!

I just tried using the same settings for the Webshare email but received an alert. Is this a similar type of issue?

Thank you over and over again.

Cool, glad that got you working. 8) You should be able to configure the webshare to use Google also, make sure you've got your authentication configured correctly and SSL is enabled.

Ok, just got the Webshare working. I had to use port 465. Found a good list of ports for providers at:

http://snappermail.com/support/isp.cfm

Thank you again for helping get these details fixed.
