I've been playing around with the stock 500Gb HP unit for a week or so now and as my two 1new Tb WD 'Green' drives are in (goodbye spinpoints) I want to do a fresh factory reset.

My plan was to do a complete factory reset with the two 1Tb drives in slot 1/2 and the 500Gb in slot 3. I thought that uninstalling all the software on the client machine and then doing the factory reset option would be okay as it would format the 500Gb thus eliminating the issues of trying to add a 'system drive'.

Despite the fact that I did a system 'factory reset' when I got the system the first time and everything installed with no issues, this time my factory reset never manages to find the server. Even though on the router I can see the HP WHS being assigned an IP address.

Stupid question for those using the WD 1Tb drives. Do you have any jumpers enabled on the HD's. I assumed no jumpers on any drive but maybe that is where I am going wrong.

I've changed switches and cables on the two machines and the symptons remain. Router 'sees' the IP address being assigned to the HP WHS, the factory reset software though never 'finds' the server.

Any ideas welome. :)

To clarify, the health LED is blinking red/purple correct? You have to give the system a minute or two to boot, then the software should be able to see it fine. Other ideas:
- Make sure any Firewall software is disabled on the client
- Try a reboot/powercycle of the PC, Server, and router. This should remove any DNS caching issues

I have no jumpers on my WD drive.

Keep us updated!

Looks like a duff WD drive.

Did a reinstall with just one WD drive and the install failed again. Used the other one and it worked fine. Then did a third install using the 'good' WD drive and the included 500Gb seagate and again all is fine.

The suspect WD drive though is never seen by the unit. Going to RMA it back to ClubIT for another unit. Hopefully then we will be in business.

Ahh, now that makes more sense. Factory Reset has to write the OS to the bottom physical disk, if that is bum then that explains why this would fail.
