I just got my WMS!!!

I also installed a new PCI GigE card on my main computer. Using Cat6 it shows up as 1000M on my Netgear GS108 switch.

Using a similar Cat6 cable, I only get the 100M light on the switch for the WMS.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Also, what's a good jumbo frame setting to use? My network card on the computer goes up to 7K and the WMS goes up to 9500.

It's currently set at 7K and 9K respectively. Should both be set to 7K or something?

Thanks,
Shige

Sounds like your switch hasnt autosensed your speed properly, you may need to reboot your switch or your home server, or both. It could just be the cable though? Try using the cable supplied?

As for jumbo frames, I think your better off setting at the lowest common denominator.

I've seen where a specific port in my Netgear switch would only set the MSS at 100mbit, but moving from port 4 to port 5 enabled it to get gigabit speeds. Try it in a different port.

For jumbo frames, you need to set at lowest common denominator as stated above.

Wow, what do you know?

The supplied cable worked!!!!

I don't get it, but I'm happy.

Lowest common denominator?

Or highest common denominator? 7k in my case?

Thanks everyone!

You are welcome.

Lowest being 7k, the MSS will take 9k but you need to match the desktop to get the full benefit. So set both at 7k

And if you are on Vista, SP1 (although only RC at this time) also makes a huge difference.

I read that MSS didn't support JUMBO FRAMES.......

If so, where do you change it??????

In the driver configuration for the network card on the server, same place as any other device. HP has not exposed an interface in the server console to enable Jumbo Frames.

I set frame size to 9000 on my PC & on the EX470, & my PC spontaneously rebooted (no blue screen of death, even!) whenever it started communicating with the EX470. I knocked it down to 5000 and that worked for a while longer, but then same thing -- spontaneous reboot. At the min size of 1500, everything works fine, so that's what I'm using for now.

It's an old motherboard with an old 3COM onboard NIC... I'll check for a driver update, but given how old it is, maybe I'll end up buying a shiny new PCI NIC.
