I think I may end up going that route. Thankfully, I don't really have much data on the system as I was waiting for PP1 to come out to resolve the file corruption issue. I've been using it solely for backup purposes until recently.

I cannot attach an external drive until I get back to PP1 - but this will only get me the files I have stored there. Is there any way to capture the settings/config of my server before I wipe it clean?

Nope, you'll need to reconfigure after either a Server Recovery or Factory Reset.
