Hi
got an EX475 which has power but shows red lights for the drives and then shuts down after a series of beeps.
I took out all the drives and tested them and are good.
This happened after a power outage.

So, battery? 2032? I will replace that next.

Wondering though how to reinstall the bios if that is the next issue?

It may be a little beyond me.

Anyone know of a tech either in Canada (where I am) or even in the US where I could mail the motherboard/Power supply unit to for a repair? I hate throwing stuff out before investigating if there's a fix.
I could just take the drives and slap them into a NAS box but then I'd be spending $$$$$ for a four bay unit.

Tx

If you have never replaced the battery then it probably is dead.
This can cause a multitude of weird issues pointing to anything.
I replaced my battery in a ex490. With no intervention it booted fine.

As far as the red leds.
If it is the battery-maybe.
But I would suspect that it still is a bad drive or corrupted os due to drive space is full is one reason.
Or maybe the or partition is full due to the event log got to big , If it was never cleared.
The OS partition is only 20 MB.

I would suggest you try the troubleshoot steps from the manual.
With paper clip in hand.

Here is one resource for the manual.
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/44164 ... tml#manual

If all else fails I would at least do a factory recovery not reset to see if it resolves your issue.

Thanks.
I am going to replace the battery.
Then I will see if it reboots.
I assume if I take out the top three disks the bottom one is the OS one.
As I said, I checked each disk on a separate disk enclosure and they all run fine and open fine and there's lots of room on them.
Will A server recovery reset the BIOS? Or does it have to be reflashed from an external source and if so, how?
Thanks again.
Meanwhile I have found an EX470 for sale and an EX475. Both are out of town but my daughter lives close by one of them and will pick it up and ship it to me. If it all goes to hell I will try buying one of those and then install my disks on it and save the other for cannabalizing parts like fans ect.

Whooooo hoo.
Battery~!
Also looks like the lower fan is intermittent so I will replace that, probably both given the cost and now I've got it all apart.
Will also replace the RAM.
Anyone know how much RAM this puppy will take and recognize. Back in 2008 RAM was a lot more expensive...I'm guessing it's an older type of RAM and more affordable.
And what about popping the CPU? I saw a video..what's the max newest CPU it will accept?
Obviously tech has changed in 12 years!!! But since I'm inside here and have it back up and running and it was a battery issue and the drives are all good, I think I'll just go ahead and tweak under the hood.
Any basic upgrade tips greatly appreciated.!!!
Thanks again for keep thing forum alive.......I'm not hard core tech but ....you know..I try....and as a musician, writer and photographer/video guy it's good to have access to a server like this on my network.....
I love this little machine, fell in love with it when I first saw it at CES and nabbed one.....great idea, so much more than just an NAS.
Again thanks people for keeping this alive.
Couldn't do it without you!!!
Aces!!

I have a EX490 so can't really speak for EX475 upgrades.
This post from lioninstreet would be a good starting point though. :)
