Hi all,

Recently a machine here failed a Seagate Constellation disk (size reduced by 90% then 100% next boot).

Seagate were brilliant as usual with the warranty; Even so, a new replacement was installed but failed to rebuild from WHS.

The networking error was the DHCP lease time, as it went to renew its dynamic IP, there was a failure.

Rule of thumb solution is to increase the lease duration well beyond any restore process and choose 24 Hours compared to the 120 Minutes it was originally. :)

Thx for sharing, I would guess at least a third of this website is something to do with a failed recovery.
Some people even go to the point where they just give up completely.

While I have had a few bad starts when I had the ex-470's, when I upgraded to the X-510's I used an old Avertec 13" Laptop that has winxp pro on it.
I copied the server recovery disk and software install disk to folders on the desktop so they would not have to access the dvd drive and I put the disks away so they wouldn't get damaged.

This laptop would not upgrade to win7 (lack of drivers) so I just keep it around for recoveries. It works without fail every-time. I just have to remember to turn off the wifi nic.

I don't know why, maybe many different reasons, but some clients just seem to work and some clients just will not work no matter what you do. I guess we can just chock it up to (windows) ya just never know.

But again, thx for another tip to add to the list of things to try.
Good Luck and enjoy...
