Post subject:  Question about displaying serial numbers

is there a way to get WHS to display the serial number of a drive under the server storage tab. Some of mine do and others do not it seems random. I also am noticing the same problem with my new add-on home server smart classic. Which is an awesome piece of tech showing me when a drive is starting to act up. But I have an issue in that nearly all my drives are the same make and manufacture so I can tell which drive is the one that is actually faulting without the serial number to compare.

Added a couple of screen shots.

Hello, welcome. I can tell you it's not just your system, mine does the same. I have Smart add-in and an old add-in called (Drive Management) that is not around anymore and was pay, it pulls the same data as smart. I even went into drive management on the desktop of the server, same thing.

So then I looked at: Belarc Advisor
http://www.belarc.com/products_belarc_advisor

It is free and fairly small program and will run on the desktop of the server. It shows all the serial numbers and drive numbers. Also shows other stuff as well.
It has been my go to program to find out stuff like (motherboard manufactures and numbers) when trying to find replacements.

I don't know of anything else that will show or could be customized to show where your drives are physically at.
Would be nice, like in your case where you have a lot of drives.

Hope this helps, good luck and shout back if you find something that works better, I'm sure many would like to know/use something to manage drives easier.
